Ringing to lower my sky bill any advice?

Options
I've been a sky customer for 6 years. My contract is coming to an end so the time has come to call them to get a better deal for the following year.

I usually pay £52 a month for sky downstairs, phone and broadband and also a multi room box. This is the deal I got this year after a lot of hard work so I doubt I'll get the same deal for next year.

Is there anything else I should be asking?

I don't think it's fair that new customers are getting new tv's and laptops when signing up too :( are old customers getting any incentives at the minute that I might not be aware of?

Thanks! :)

I've recently renegotiated from what would have been a full price £60.15 to around £27 odd (allowing for the £50 credit) per month so the offers are certainly there. That was via 3 phone calls, a cancellation for 6 weeks time and a very quick and easy live chat long before it would have turned off.

    You can but ask.
  • I think your best bet is to just tell them straight what price you are willing to pay ....and be firm (but polite) with them. If you're lucky you'll get the deal you're after (or close to it). If not then you just have to play Sky at their own game and ask to cancel (and be prepared to go through with it).

More often than not you'll be offered an incentive to come back to Sky after you've put your 1 months cancellation into play. If not, hold your nerve as you may have to wait for your services to actually go OFF before you get offered any return incentives.

    Be brave. Good luck!

The thing is that every new customer gets an incentive - you did when you signed up. So it is fair. Don't mention this when you call up!

I too, don't think its far that loyalty isn't rewarded. The reason is that a long-standing customer is only worried about when they are about to leave. Most resources are put into attracting new customers as this works out to be more valuable for companies.. Of course, this should change. The only way this will change is if everybody leaves for new providers when their good deals run out.

Just call Sky, tell them you want to leave. When asked why simply tell them that you are unhappy that new customers are treated better than loyal customers. When they try to 'save you' simply keep repeating "please cancel my account" until they do. You are likely to receive a 30 - 50% off offer within the 30 days notice (usually online or in the 'my account' section through MySky on your box.

Looking purely at Sky's new customer offers at the moment I'd say that that isn't true right now. Existing customers seem to be getting the better deals although that may change by tomorrow of course.

As I posted a few days ago, they were advertising full price phone and broadband as though it was a special offer, but they now have the equivalent of free ADSL for new customers (actually available to current customers, but only indicated if you log into your account).

I don't know when the offer ends/ended, but they offered lots of us, who recently left, 75% off with £100 credit; much better than any new customer deal.
