We booked a through ticket with british airways(code share amercian airways)from bhx to jfk with a three hour stopover to catch the next flight down to Orlando.
The flight was late leaving Birmingham.so arrived at jfk 1hr 20mins late.we got to the baggage rebook belt 20mins before the flight was due to take off.we was told we had missed it and had to rebook for the next day.after a lot of complaining they book booked me a flight with united from Newark 6hrs later.we had food vouchers and a taxi to Newark and caught the next flight.which was 1hr late leaving.so instead of arriving at 1800 in Orlando. We arrived at 0130 7hr30mins later than planned. So my question is can I claim compensation and if so who do I approach britush airways who I booked with or American Airlines who operated the flight. And also what delay time can I claim because it was only 1hr 20mins late arriving but it made me miss my connection. This route always seems to run late so wasn't a mechanical issue or weather.
I hope someone can give me some advice.

Claims are always against the operating carrier. If it was all on one ticket it's the time you arrive at your final destination that counts.0
