Industrial Bins behind house

I noticed behind our house it said BS so I phoned the sales office and she said it was a bin stand for the apartments next door she never told me this when I went in and asked to reserve the house! There are 10 apartments and all of the industrial size bins are one metre behind our garden fence!! We are gutted we are ready to reserve this house as soon as it is up for sale but My partner is worried if they will smell in the summer it's not just a couple of bins it's industrial size bins with 10 apartments rubbish in!! When we come to sell this house will that put people of buying? I don't get why they have put the bins behind our house it should have been next to the apartments anyway!
Has anyone got anything like this near there house? I think I could live with them but he's really out of to pay £147,000 for a house that has all them bins behind and could smell really bad.

How big is the garden? Are there any plans to build a cover/shed type thing for the bin store?
I would find out how regularly the bins will be emptied.
Personally I wouldn't like to move into a property which from the sounds orbit has apartments overlooking it, at least not in the UK when there's other choices. The bins would be an additional concern for smells, noise and pests but then it's relative to where you're buying. City centre? Probably not much difference. Market town or village? Look elsewhere IMHO.
If you don't plan to use the garden you could buy an air con unit to keep your home cool in the summer?0 -
Believe me it will smell, even in winter. I would run a mile.0

We have large communal bins in Edinburgh in some areas - admittedly in the street rather than next to where you might be sitting out in back gardens, but I haven't noticed them being smelly. Even less of a problem if food waste is (mostly) going somewhere else.
Not sure why you're "gutted" about something which might not be a problem and when you haven't even reserved the house!0 -
My daughter has large bins across from her house, they are emptied regularly, a few times a week. They do not smell.0

Thanks for the reply
We will be using the garden a lot as I have health problems and the hot tub eases my muscles so we would be in the garden all the time. The sales women wouldn't have give me any answers so I phoned head office and he said there will a wooden fence around with a gate! We don't know the size of the garden yet she's not been very helpful. The man at head office said to try sit down with the site manager.
I want to be able to leave the doors open in summer for my dog to come in and out!
Your so right about the noise etc and pests.
On the same site but with Persimmon we have found a similar house which is more expensive and there are certain things we would be compromising on but we would gain another bedroom and garage! And it still has the 3rd floor which we are really keen on.0 -
We are "gutted" because we don't want to pay £147,000 for a house and to smell other people's rubbish from all them apartments while sat in our garden so that's why we are gutted. As soon as the house comes up we planned to reserve it so in our heads it was basicly ours.
There are only two of these homes on the site and they are next door to each other so both have the bins behind0 -
I have one just outside my house , its jet washed regularly and never smellsEx forum ambassador

I used to live in a block of flats with communal bins and they never smelt bad. They were huge so there was plenty of space and they never overflowed, and were emptied weekly. They were also right at the end of the communal garden and didn't have any impact on the use of it.
If you're planning on having a hot tub in the garden I think I would be more concerned about privacy issues - will everyone taking their rubbish out be able to get an eyeful or will you have a high enough fence that they can't see in to your garden?0 -
The fence is 4 ft but I asked if we build higher but he said he wasn't sure because of regulations but my partner seems to thing it's 6ft you can go to.
we would maybe get a big plant/bush put at the bottom of garden that may solve the privacy. The tub would be next to the patio doors as well.
Maybe it will be ok!! - we really want this house and timing for it works perfect for us cause it won't be ready till start 2018 which gives us time to save!0 -

So don't, look elsewhere.0
