    But my joiner does?
No, your joiner has no consumer rights with Howdens.

Your joiner purchased as a business. This was a business to business transaction and consumer rights do not apply.

If you wish to pursue your consumer rights, you'll need to chase your joiner.

Which is probably why he wants the OP to do all the work, knowing he wont get his costs recovered.

Oh the joys of buying from Howdens when things go wrong!

Those saying joiner is responsible are correct. You have no contract with Howdens. He is Howdens customer not you. Your warranty is with him.

They may not be liable for fitting the replacement one. However they are liable for reasonable costs involved in replacement of said extractor fan. As a consumer you cannot be left out of pocket when a product fails under warranty.
    That is incorrect.
When getting something repaired or replaced under a warranty, there is nothing to stop the terms of that warranty stating that the consumer is responsible for any and all costs involved in removing or refitting the item and getting it back to the retailer.

This is because a warranty is not a legal right and if a manufacturer or retailer provides one, it can have terms and conditions passing these costs onto the consumer.
