Virgin Media

I signed up for Virgin Media this time last year (18 month contract) and took one of the top packages because it meant a massive saving on Sky Sports for 12 months. The lady who signed me up told me to call back at this time because my 12 month discount would come to an end and renegotiate my contract. When i called today the renegotiated contracts WITH Sky Sports were stratospheric, so I had a bit of a sigh and said 'let's just take the Sky Sports off' because my budget is more important (just had a baby last week). What i didn't know and what wasn't explained to me was that by taking Sky Sports off I am recontracted for another 12 months which is not what i wanted at all - I wanted to take SS off, run down my remaining 6 months and then move or do without altogether.
My problem is that when i spoke with a manager she took the SS off and my budget is now intact but i am really regretting being tied in for another 12 months - is there a cooling off period on this renegotiated contract? It's only now i can see that 6 months of £30 quid extra for Sky Sports to then end my contract in June is better than the extra 6 months full price I now have to pay June-Dec!!! I got flustered and have shot myself in the foot i think.
So just to be clear, my question is: Is there a cooling off period on a renegotiated contract? Can i stop it all going through and just continue as if i had never called them at all, so i can cancel in June?
Many thanks in advance :xmastree:.
Best,
O'Duilleain.

Did you not sign anything to say you agreed to the changes ?0

When I negotiated a new deal with VM last September, I arranged for the new 12 month contract to start in November (when my current discount ended). I was told I could cancel at no cost within 14 days of the contract start date (or sooner, presumably).
Didn't try to cancel, but that's what they told me.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Victor2 thanks for that, so essentially 14 days cooling off for you in that instance?
DCFC79 I might have signed the original contract and returned it to them - I'm honestly not sure, but do you mean the contract that i renegotiated today? They said they would send a new contract out but didn't mention anything about signing. Are you saying if one arrives and I don't sign it then it isn't valid?0 -

There is a 14 day cool off period on any package change you make.
What I would suggest is to email in using the online complain form and complain about the re-contracting. 9 out of 10 times complaints will take the Sky Sports off without re-contracting you.0
