Pure aluminium or copper pans will not heat up unless the base is bonded with a magnetic metal.

Even where it is bonded to magnetic material the efficiency will be greatly reduced, because the copper layer adds a gap between the hob and magetic material (about 2.5 mm on high quality pans).
The only practical reason copper is used is to aid conduction of heat from the hob to the pan, so they are designed to go on traditional gas and electric hobs, not induction hobs.0 -
