But with about the same validity as much quoted by the "scientific" community these days ;)

This is because when heating water for a couple of mugs of coffee with the old kettle it took so long to boil that I wouldn't stand watching it and when it boiled by the time I got back to it I always switched it back on again to bring it to the boil before pouring it in the mugs.

Could be that's why it was consuming more electricity

    What lime scale?

    Not everyone lives in England.

Yes - the OP might live in Scotland.

And the failure of their old Tesco kettle is probably down to the acidic water eating the element away.

Engineers just see a glass twice the size it needed to be :D

Seems the only reason it's saving power is that 3k boils quicker so the user stays there instead of clearing off to only return to reboil it with the 2k.

So the saving is due to change of procedure in making the drink.

9.72p kWh is what I am paying SG

I am amazed that the sharp people on here, have not responded to what is in post number 1.

As per the instructions on the jar, hot water is required for coffee, NOT boiling. So never mind re boiling the water, turn it off, before it starts to bubble.

Enjoy this saving, because when your electricity contract is due for renewal, it will cost you 25% more than you are currently paying.

    Happy Hogmanay :)

I always turn the kettle off just as it starts to boil when making tea or coffee. It tastes better and apparently saves money.

The OP has a point. Taken to extremes, if you used a 1 Watt kettle it would never boil (due to heat loss) and so you'd use an infinite amount of electricity ...and never get your cuppa.

It does if you don't watch it, eventually.

Just because a watched pot never boils it doesn't follow that a not-watched pot does boil.
