Passwords! GRRR

... which is exactly why you shouldn't use the same password for everything.Voyager2002 wrote: »I have one very strong password that I use for everything. Unfortunately it has been known to criminals for the last three years or so thanks to Yahoo0 -
Gosh thank you everyone, I hadn't realised there were so many replies. Lots of useful information. Yes Chrome remembers some passwords but like Firefox which I also use, not all of them.
I've tried using my basic password with a few different letters at the end/middle which relate to the website so for example xxxxxxmse for this one, but then did I use just ms perhaps, or mSe or xxxmsexxx? No good.
I'll investigate the techie options too, though am being drawn more towards the notebook in the handbag idea too. I've just been locked out of my Co-op bank account too as apparently I should have a username! I've always used my account no and sort code plus another name to get in. No username. Unusually for some reason, I still get paper statements, so it's easier to check my files than faff any more.
Back in the 1990s we heard all about paperless offices as the future, it seems we still have a long way to go!
Thanks again
DS
...and ps, no I've never had a problem (despite Yahoo) either. Nor do I know anyone who has. :wall:0 -
Co-op bank have just changed to user name rather than e-mail address and you should have been guided through the change to the process. If you try to log in again, click on the link that says "I don't have a user name"downshifter wrote: »I've just been locked out of my Co-op bank account too as apparently I should have a username! Thanks, yes I saw that option too so will return to it later though it still gave me the boxes for my old info. Oh dear, that's something else - I'll now have to think up a username too! It's all too much!!!!

Thanks for the great new word of the day Robisere - eidetic. I've never heard that before but now I know I'm going to try and use it. New password perhaps?
A day for research methinks, thanks everyone again.

Switched over to LastPass a few months ago, instead of using the same 3 or 4 passwords for everything. Works great.
A friend of mine had his Microsoft account hacked and he was like me, using the same few passwords. He's still not able to get back into it so has written it off and created a new one. This prompted me to switch to a password manager.
Now that the Android version of LastPass is free it's even better, and the fingerprint authentication is great.

After the recent yahoo revelations I got an email reminder to change my by yahoo password. Did so, but today they are saying I didn't and will cut me off if I don't .
When I changed Pw on my laptop it prompted me to also change my iPad and iPhone. I tried but phone wouldn't let me. Meanwhile laptop said I could t use PW for 15 mins. By the time I had waited, it wouldn't accept new one because iPhone not updated...... I could go on. ......
I have been going round in circles ever since. I just get it right and sorted, then it tells me to update again. Driving me round the bend. And what do I do when BT cuts me off?

BT & Yahoo are, between them, truly hopeless.Newly_retired wrote: »After the recent yahoo revelations I got an email reminder to change my by yahoo password. Did so, but today they are saying I didn't and will cut me off if I don't .

I think when you changed your password, it was supposed to give you an option to change your security question as well. However in my case that option doesn't appear, because, as I said, they're hopeless and their website doesn't match the instructions. I'm guessing your experience was similar.
I've had the 'reset it in 7 days' email today too, even though I changed as much as I could last week and there's no way for me to actually change the thing they seemingly want me to change.

I did get something helpful from a BT chat session I just had. The person said there was a problem on the BT website and I should use this link to login instead via Yahoo. It worked for me.Newly_retired wrote: »Meanwhile laptop said I could t use PW for 15 mins. By the time I had waited, it wouldn't accept new one because iPhone not updated...... I could go on. ......

I use 1Password.
Before I used a password manager I was sceptical about their use and cost. Now it's one of my essential pieces of software.0 -

Frankly it is obvious that "very strong passwords", e.g. combinations of UPPER/lower case with numbers and punctuation chars, are only as strong as the hosts security. As has been proved by the hacking of Yahoo etc.
But you really should have a different password for every site that you visit.
And yes, I have a little book in my desk drawer....I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0
