OS Daily Monday 19 December

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning folks.

I'm up and about already as I'm going down to Glasgow, just for the day, to hit the shops. Hopefully I'll get in early, miss the crowds and get out again and home. There are just some things I can't get here, well, actually there's loads of things!

It's still mild here with rain but not the storms we had last year so it's bearable.

Hugs to those who want one.

Happy Monday.

Morning All

Good Luck Gers, I haven't been to Glasgow yet this year on the run up to Christmas, the internet has been my friend!

Well, apart from the door of the fridge, the kitchen is finished, spent Saturday night and all of yesterday trying to clean, tidy and unpack. DD, BF and friends came round last night for a curry and a drink or two, really pleased with the finished result.

Busy week ahead at work and home, have visitors coming up tomorrow night so I have the bedrooms to organise, should keep me busy!

Hope you've all had a good weekend, sorry to hear about Bowie, will be thinking of you all today JackieO. Take care. XX
• Morning, thank you for starting us off Gers.

I am working today, tomorrow and Wednesday and then will be free until after new year, really looking forward to the break.

Today I start off with a localish appointment and will go there rather than the office, have asked OH to give me a lift as it is too far to walk and awkward by bus. Then office, then out again, and will probably finish after that.

I still have a couple of presents to buy but I don't have the horror of food shopping, that is mostly done now, OH does that and will get the fresh stuff at the end of the week. We don't have turkey as I don't like it, we just have a chicken but with the same accompaniments and I have done the stuffing and put that in the freezer. And nobody really likes Christmas pudding, so fruit and/or cheese is easy.

I am still croaky and have a headache but am on the mend.

Thinking of those of us who are sad or unwell.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Morning, thanks for the thread Gers enjoy your day xx

I didn't get to post over the weekend but was reading along.

Jackie - so sorry to hear about Bowie xx
Lainey - glad mums procedure went well xx

I have a meeting at 9am so will be getting the 7.20 train. It's the only day of the week I need to be in early and it's a bit of a struggle but needs must. I actually have tomorrow, Wednesday and Friday off this week to use up my annual leave. I will spend Wednesday with my sister as there are some things that need sorting for the funeral which is next week.

We went to the carol service yesterday and it was good to see some folks from church that I've missed seeing these past few weeks.

Dinner will be spag Bol - nice and easy :) I will be ironing this evening after work. Mostly school shirts ready for next term (my children finished on Friday) so there's no panic at the end of the holidays.

Have a good day all

• Morning folks and thanks GERS for starting - safe drive into Glasgow. We have been very spoiled with the weather recently. None of the rain that battered others last week and none of the fog that has shrouded other places over the last few days. I'm sure we will pay for this before the winter is out!

Today we have the funeral of DB's MIL. It seems ages since she died but counting back it's exactly two weeks. It's at the chapel in our village where she attended for most of her 96 years so we expect it to be full and we will get there early to be sure of a seat. Afterwards it's up at the Crematorium, followed by a three course meal at a nearby restaurant. It sounds rather refined after all the boozy buffet wakes I have been to recently! On the way home we are calling at BIL's house with the presents for all their DGC so a bit less clutter here!

We got most of the shopping done yesterday but Sainsbobs let me down! I like their TTD Vivaldi potatoes, both new and mashers, and not a bag to be seen! Moved on to their TTD tomatoes and, here again, none to be seen. Don't they employ stocker=uppers on a Sunday? In fact the whole veg section looked as if a plague of locusts had gone through. Not pleased as that means another trip as I won't compromise on nice potatoes and tomatoes! Aldi, on the other hand, were working flat out to keep everywhere stocked up and I got everything I wanted.

Have a good day all and ((HUGS)) to all the poorlies, worried and anxious. LW I hope the BD leaves you alone soon. JACKIe, a sad day ahead for your family but our much loved doggies Domino, Kelly and Meg will be waiting over the RB for Bowie too, along with all the others mentioned. Take care all xx

Happy New Kitchen CAMELOT!

Scampi was given a cone but he hates it – it's another thing that makes him feel trapped and he started to panic. I took it off and he mostly left his leg alone so we haven't had to use it thankfully. I had a hard time taking his bandage off yesterday, he hates his paws being touched. I cut the top, unwound it a bit then left him to it. He led under the coffee table, pulled the rest off himself and spent a while licking his paw. It seems fine but I'm still going to keep walks very short (5-10 minutes, four or five times a day) and not let him run around for a couple of days.

camelot Enjoy your new kitchen, I was thrilled was mine was finished and still am, even though it was done about five years ago :D

I'm wondering how many people along our bit of road will get to work today. We had a letter saying the road will be closed for a couple of days between 7am-7pm for resurfacing. We're near the end of the closed bit and they won't be outside our house til tommorrow, judging by the direction they've taken so far. Last night I reminded the man-trus to park around the corner and they both got huffy – as if I'd been nagging, I only said it once! - and they both think they'll be able to get out just fine. And so do all the neighbours by the looks of things, they're still all parked along the road!

It's foggy here, it feels nice and cosy in the house. I'm going to light a couple of tealights on the windowsill to enhance the cosiness :D
I have a bit of work to do this morning then I'll be wrapping presents.

Morning everyone

Gers - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark here, still damp and dirty, but no rain at the moment.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 gone to work, and DS2 still in his pit.

Lunch yesterday was just roast chicken, pasta in a cheese and bacon sauce and HM veg rice, all eaten and enjoyed, and the pasta and veg rice was at DH's request - will never work out how men's brains work, if I'd planned that he would've moaned! This week they are going to get what they are given as it's going to be a busy week as it always is leading up to xmas, tonight it's pork steaks, mash, veg and gravy.

Back to work for me today, not expecting it to be busy as customers are generally too busy getting ready for xmas than coming in to see us, that may be famous last words! We'll see, if it is busy great - it'll mean the time passes quicker.

I do need to get the icing on my xmas cake, and wrap the last couple of prezzies, other than that and the normal everyday stuff there's not much more to do. I'm working until Wednesday at 4.15pm - then I'm not back until the following Wednesday - the days have worked in my favour this year!

Keep safe and well x

Thanks for the carol Tru, hugs to all those in need.
DD will be dropping the DGC off about 8:30 so she can get to work for 9, my L&M will need a lift at 9:30 to get to work at 10, after that it will glue and glitter everywhere. I have lots of egg boxes that I've saved so we will make glitter bells for the Christmas tree.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
Chin up, Titus out.
• Good Morning folks thank you for all your kind thoughts this morning .I won't be able to get to Dds until later this afternoon as I have the plumber here power flushing the central heating system, so today won't be the best birthday for my DD bless her.I know she is doing the kindest thing for Bowie and he won't be in pain anymore. Its the pain of the family that is left behind. But we shall do our best to cope as we always do.Luckily the boys are still at school this week until Wednesday, So much happening this week with the wedding on Saturday as well.
My cold is starting to dry up a little at last, but my appetite is still rubbish .

<<Hugs >> to those who need one, as some are going through a tough time.

Take care everyone

Morning everyone,

Thanks for the thread Gers, good luck with your trip into town, people have been remarking how quiet it's been in Cambridge city centre in the run up, guess a lot of people do the bulk of shopping on line these days.
We spent yesterday afternoon with Mum, she is still very tired but is managing a little more solid food and eating every two hours as recommended. The best thing is that the horrible lump in her throat has mostly disappeared and she can enjoy what's she eats far more, she had half a cheese toastie which really went down well :)
Need to get into town for a few bits this morning, family cards etc and then will pop over to see DM this afternoon.
Thinking of all poorlies and those with a heavy heart, especially dear LW please please feel that you can unload here amongst pals x also thinking of JackieO and family on such a difficult day, Bowie dog will be welcomed by many beloved furry friends x
Thoughts also with the TA family today x

Take care all.
