Incoming text alert but no text?

My mobile has taken to making the incoming text alert sound several times a day but no text arrives at least not a visible one. Also after I have sent an outgoing text it triggers an incoming text alert several hours later - which does show the text I sent. I assume I have inadvertently set some setting somewhere which is causing all this. Any ideas where? I have done a reset a couple of times without getting g rid of the problem . It is an android phone - a Sony Xperia.

Sounds like a message report to confirm receipt at the other end. If so, it's something you can change in your messaging settings on the phone. I always keep mine on - though usually it confirms in seconds (that depends on the phone status and reception at the other end, of course) and I don't get a copy of what I sent.

Have now had a look at message settings and cannot see relevant field or where to edit any other possible field. Any steer?

Maybe someone with the same phone or operating system can assist. My phones are ancient so it's easy to change it in the message settings.

Don't know specifically about your phone but the setting for delivery reports you would normally have to open your messaging app and then go to the settings of that.

Have you got anything else with sound notifications? I used to get the message tone loads with no notification. Then I realised that it was the outlook app notifying of emails with a tone but nothing else. Stupidly there was a setting to turn off the visible notification notice and the sound separately.
