Smart Phone for Seniors?

Hi
My 80 year old dad uses an old Doro phone but he also uses a Samsung Galaxy Tablet (quite well). On the basis of this, I thought I'd get him a user friendly smart phone.
Ideally I'd like the new phone to be able to use his sim card from White Mobile, or alternatively a PAYG sim which doesn't have to be topped up each month.
Any ideas/recommendations?

My mum is almost 80 and I got her a Motorola Moto E with a Three PAYG sim.
She loves it.0 -
Probably any device with a larger screen.
Depends what his eyesight is like. Is it good enough for a sub 4" screen?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Yes that is a good point. Size of screen would help.0 -
Don't waste money on the likes of Doro that leech of the naivety of older people to sell them poor quality phones at massively inflated prices.
Get a budget mainstream android with a big enough screen, and if need be look at adding a simplified launcher like Fontrillo or Big Launcher.
I wouldn't recommend PAYG for a smartphone as it'll use background data, unless you turn mobile networks off, in which case you may as well get him a cheap old-style candybar phone.
Have a look here for cheap sim only deals that have a bit of data

screen size is the main thing for older eyes - i got a second hand nexus 6 as its the only phone under £200 i could find with a 6 inch screen0

My dad hardly ever goes out so 99% the data will feed off of his wifi.0 -
