I didn't participate in the challenge thread much last year, but whilst that was partly down to me neglecting most challenge threads (bad me!) it was also down to me only spending on a very few clothing items (all now reported in the 2016 thread).

I'm in again for 2017, and am hoping to have as little to report this time around. As such I'm giving myself the same rules....

No budget, but restrictions on what I can buy

Bras (back to seriously trying to shift some weight tomorrow, and with very few that fit properly now that situation is only going to get worse!)
Running shoes (if the ones I have become unfit for use which is quite probable given they've already done more than the recommended mileage - just depends on whether I actually get my training properly restarted)
Walking boots (if the ones I have become unfit for use - unlikely this year as I have a few well worn pairs that do for shorter easy walks as well as the pair I bought in 2016)

Can't think of anything else I'm likely to need, but will allow replacements for anything that wears out / no longer fits where I really, really don't own anything else that will do as a replacement.

    Best of luck everyone :)

cw18, you are number 27. Welcome to the challenge :)

Thanks Florence TBH I can't really be faffed looking for new trainers, it's a bit like some people find jeans shopping. A lot of money and you're never 100% sure if you have the right ones until you've worn them, and then it's too late. I prob have some mileage left on these ones so unless I see a truly amazing deal I'll keep on with them. As they are supportive ones, they are quite sturdy (I got an ankle injury a two years ago with new trainers, which were fab and like but had zero support, and I was training on some off road surfaces. Anklechas never fully recovered so I need support trainers and an ankle support to run)

CW Great to see you back.

Looks like there are lots of weight loss targets this year...good luck everyone. Oddly I seem to have lost some weight over Xmas, or perhaps that's just because I've been weighing myself with my slippers off :rotfl:

I had already decided that 2017 will be the year I cut down on my expenditure on items that I do not need including clothes.
I will set myself a budget of £250 for the year as I may need to buy a cheap pair of jeans and some bras during the year.
I have a full summer wardrobe which I can bring out when the weather gets warmer or I go on holiday and I do not need any shoes.
I intend to prune items out of my wardrobe and donate to a cs as I have lots of items I don't wear and I have to wear a uniform when I am at work.

    Evening

    Thanks for the number Kim.

Well today I have been sorting out my wardrobe. There were many more than 33 items in there, and some of the stuff I have ordered for the new 3 month period has not yet arrived!!! I am going to be listing loads of stuff on eBay in the coming weeks. I have a few things ending tomorrow and anything which does not sell is going to the charity shop.

I managed to offload 3 dresses that I haven't worn in the past 3 months onto my friend this evening so that was good.

I will get my buying under control.

Thank You for my number. I'm looking forward to the challenge and feel that joining in with others will help to keep me on the straight and narrow otherwise I know I'd be wavering before January was out.

I've chosen my capsule wardrobe for the next couple of months and started my sewing/ knitting list. I think my Winter wardrobe probably needs the most work. I have a ton of clothes but having retired on health grounds I've completely changed what I wear and the items I already had in my casual section are wearing out from overuse. I also seem to have bought the majority of my clothes while I was very underweight. I am hoping to refashion where possible but I suspect most will end up in the charity shop or ebay eventually.

  • Day 3 and I could really do with a pair of gloves with actual fingers! I cycled from Kings Cross to Victoria with just my cashmere fingerless gloves and it was rather chilly! BUT I'm not buying any. I'm going to have a go at making a pair (sewing) tonight! Hahaha

I've joined a no buying new clothing for 2017 on Facebook - is it linked to this thread?
Well lets see - I dip in and out of MSE all the time but I still come back - have done since 2007!!!

    It's not mine, I don't use Facebook.

I only joined the challenge last year, so perhaps some longer standing members may be able to shed some light as to whether another member or former member runs a page there.
