Is it just me that is a luddite, or is the "new" "better" online banking website quite the worst thing that you have ever experienced (that doesn't say Microsoft on it)?

There use to be a "luddite" button to go back to the "old" "worser" page, but that has disappeared. :(

The "old" "worser" system was approximately 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 times better than this rubbish. It might be "ok" on an iphone, but it isn't on a PC.

It's like they made a list of all the useful features, like seeing a summary of all your accounts, and the best part of a months transactions, with separate debit and credit columns, and made sure that they were removed.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Agreed, it is garbage in comparison. Shudder to think how much they spent on consultants etc. in order to develop it.
  • Agreed as well. Found the old website much more practical. The new one you have to go through hops to find anything.

A quick google shows loads of complaints, but HSBC don't care because it is "better"

    https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.hsbc.co.uk

The general consensus is it has been designed for one of these "mobile" thingies, rather than a proper pc.

Considering this idea, it would explain the useless layout of microsoft outlook, (which I have to use at work). I can never find any emails, as only 5 fit on my 1680x1050 screen.

I will have to look at changing banks I suppose, to one that
    a) pays "interest" on my savings (at more than 0.000000001%)
    b) has a web interface that is useable.

Only been with the HongKong & Shanghai since they were The Midland too- around 38 years I reckon.

I've always liked the Halifax interface and they are currently offering a £100 incentive for switching (as long as you haven't received previous switching cash from them since 2012) :money:
    • The rich buy assets.
    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

You must have some odd configuration settings!

I've used many versions of Outlook over many years and always find it straightforward to tailor to personal preference - I choose the view that has one email per row (i.e. without the preview of the first few lines), which allows about 30-35 email headers to be displayed on an average sized monitor. Are you not able to change the view settings?

Failing that, sorting by sender (or other criteria) or searching by keyword (or other criteria) allows emails to be found very quickly from a large mailbox - I know that Microsoft aren't short of critics but you don't get to dominate a market with useless software!

This is some sort of online office nonsense

    I have 3 options:
reading pane on right = 8 headers in view
Reading pane at bottom = 5 headers in view
No reading pane = 19 headers in view

But everybody uses thunderbird at home ;)

I still don't get on with word either.

Apart from every time I delete one character, the whole document reformats and pretty much turns upside down, the single best feature of word 2003, being able to simply add a button for e.g. superscript exactly where I wanted it, isn't available in whatever crazy version I've had forced on me, and the save dialogue is just so convoluted, insane and wasteful of screen space.

I really can't imagine how Miscrosoft keep their market share, it certainly isn't because their software is "better". Probably a variation on the old "No-one ever got fired for buying IBM" :D

Ah, in that case I don't think you're comparing like with like - the online versions of the Microsoft Office products are just websites that are inevitably less functional than locally installed full-version applications....

I actually like the new layout.

It actually looks closer to the Halifax/Lloyds internet banking than it did before. The only thing I don't like about it is the limited number of transaction shown before you have to click the "Show More".

We have been with HSBC for a number of years and the previous website was easy and quick to navigate around. The new one is diabolical and difficult as trasnactions are widely spaced and if printing off anything instead fo a page it takes several pages now.
We have been considering moving to another bank as interest rates are set to drop in January. I think that the new website has forced our hand and now we will definitely make the attempt to switch, but which bank as you cannot view the layout prior to switching? We have looked at Firstdirect but that is part of HSBC so may be getting the new useless look in the near future.
