Using Bank of Scotland account from England via Halifax?

Hi all,

Super quick question: as I will (probably) need to go into branch if I were to open a Bank of Scotland account, since I live nowhere near any this is a pain. However, could I do my Bank of Scotland business at my local Halifax branch?

Many thanks for the help.

I have certainly done Bank of Scotland business at Halifax branches and never had a problem.
  • Basic counter transactions, yes. But not at Halifax branches in Scotland.

You should be able to use your account in Halifax for general day to day banking eg paying in, transaction queries, but you would not be able to apply for any other BOS products or upgrade in a Halifax branch. Telephone or online would be the only route for that in England.

I have banked with Halifax for 5+ years.
This year I opened 3 x BOS vantage a/cs- which I did over the phone. No need to go into a branch- they can verify who I am from my dealings within the Lloyds banking group.

You can use dedicated BOS phone line for transactions, or you can use Halifax phone number.

Yes you can transact on BOS account in Halifax branches.

I open all my BOS accounts online, and they appear on my internet banking on both Halifax and BOS, so now I do all my transfers and payments on Halifax online banking.

Payments in, out, and statements can be printed in any Halifax branch.

I think you'll also find that the bank holidays which apply to say standing orders, will be the Scottish ones, not the English ones, worth bearing this in mind
