Daily Thread for Sunday 18th December

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

• Morning all

Drove home through thick fog last night , I really struggled to see the road, it seems to have cleared a bit this morning but it's still misty.

Hugs to all the poorlies, Tru, sorry to hear about Scampi's foot, JackieO such awful news about Bowie.

The washing machine is chugging away but the clothes will have to be dried over the maiden as it's supposed to be damp and cloudy today.

This morning I shall bottom out downstairs and this afternoon wrap presents. I did upstairs yesterday, I picked up a bottle of shower gel and the bottom split, so the bathroom is extra clean and probably still a bit soapy!

DD2 has been offered 3 weekdays extra work at her Saturday job, she will still do her night job and her husband is working so I will do childcare for them.

She is working Monday - Wednesday 9 - 3, she was asked to do Friday as well but I can't cover that day so she's turned down that day. My L&M is working 10 - 6, so will escape most of the carnage that four children, lots of glue & glitter and lots of Peppa Pig. She and 142 colleagues at her night job are being made redundant in the new year, so she is gabbing any extra pay whilst she can.

Time I put the kettle on, have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
Chin up, Titus out.

Good morning everyone

Thanks for the thread HH.

JackieO- so sad to hear about Bowie. Pets gets so deep into our hearts. Think of the pleasure he gave you all and be thankful for him. I've only ever had one pet, a cat which I won in a school fete in Hoo. Despite me being in my 60s I have never forgotten her.

Glad about your DM and her stent Lainey, it'll make her a bit more comfortable at very least.

Camelot - your kitchen news sounds exciting. Bet you can't wait for it all to be finished, not long now.

TA - hope your DH is feeling better by now.

Well, this time next week it'll be Christmas Day, some will be knee-deep in wrapping paper and well into their first mince pies.

My plans for today revolve round the final bits in the barn. I'll try to collar the farmer to lift the heavy door out into the big barn, shift the various bits of garden machinery and get the space ready for the chest freezer.

I'm attending the carol service at the tiny church on the estate where I live. Whilst I'm a non-attendee and a non-believer, and there's not a single recognisable carol ever, it's one of those things I don't mind doing each year. There's mulled wine afterwards, I hate mulled wine! So, there's really not on thing I like about going...:rotfl: but I'll still be there.

I thoroughly enjoyed SCD last night, apart from the 'journey' bits. I've recorded it so will whizz through the dances again. I would love to have one more ITT on Monday to show off the winners.

Anyway, today's food will be toasted cheese at some point. I don't eat much bread but have just taken a fancy to it.

Happy Sunday folks.
• Good Morning chums grey, damp and foggy this morning. I have a fancy for some cheesey scrambled egg this morning for breakfast, might give a bit of flavour to my meal.I have the plumber coming tomorrow morning first thing to do the power flush of my central heating system so an expensive start to the week.I shall go to see DD in the afternoon with her presents although she may not be feeling very cheerful.

Such a shame really as when they got him from the rescue centre in August he was such a lively dog and took to the family straight away. But at least he had a few months of love and care from DD and all the family. Animals do get a hold of you when you least expect it don't they.
I have a good bit of decluttering to do today in my small study, and lots of paperwork to get bagged up to go to eldest DDs to be shredded so I shall be keeping myself busy this morning.

<<hugs >> to the poorlies and sad and blue.Christmas isn't always merry for lots of people

Take care chums

JackieO xx
• Morning folks and thanks HESTER for the thread. Good news for your DD but the extra childcare for you will be hard work in the run up to Christmas.

LAINEY so pleased to hear of the success with your mum's stent. JACKIE so sorry to read about Bowie. I remember what the grief of having a much loved pet PTS feels like.

MR TA was feeling much improved yesterday after his op. He even ventured into town with me on the bus yesterday. I changed plan and didn't go to the sm after all. I wanted a large Poinsettia from M & S so just picked up some milk and bread from there at the same time. A supermarket shop is now on the agenda for today. Both Aldi and Sainsbobs but I will not give into temptation and stick to my list!!

Not bothering with a big Sunday lunch today. I have some ys meatballs defrosting and will have those with a basil and tomato sauce and pasta.

Have a good day all and (((HUGS))) to the poorlies, sad and worried. Take care xx

Scampi's being a little star but will not pee in the garden with a lead on, I have to take him out the front and walk along the path about 20ft, lol. Maybe he needs to feel like he's going for a walk, even though we're not allowed to actually go anywhere :D I'm supposed to take the bandage off later today, it seems too soon but I'll do as the vet said. I have bandages and tape in the first aid kit, I'll wrap it back up if I think he needs it.

Not much happening today, I'll just potter about and try to keep moving – my muscles feel a bit stiff at the moment. It's the carol concert tonight, they put on a good show but I can't be bothered to go so I'll stay in and lounge about on the sofa instead :D

Morning everyone,

Foggy here again this morning, it hardly lifted yesterday.

I slept through from 11pm to around 5 this morning, the longest I've managed for a long time :)
Don't have loads planned for today, will be heading over to DB's around midday to see Mum and spend time with her, she was sore and tired all of yesterday so am hoping today sees some improvement.
All presents were wrapped yesterday and are bagged up ready to be delivered, I did pop out later in the afternoon and visited a Xmas barn at the local farm shop. It was surprisingly quiet for the last Saturday before and that encouraged me to have a good browse round, picked up a few bits including a little wooden horse to hang on the tree in memory of my darling Bill.
Glad to hear that Mr TA is feeling a bit better.
Hugs to all poorlies and those heavy of heart x
Right, time for coffee and bacon buttie, have a good Sunday everyone x

Good morning everyone :hello:

It's quite misty here this morning. I didn't get very much sleep last night but I've had a little snooze in front of the telly so I feel ok for now.

My DD15 has managed to get a job waitressing at a local pub so she is very happy to be earning some extra money. Her big sister is the cook there and put in a good word for her. She has to work factory friday next week so that will be an eye opener for her I'm sure .

Jackie. I was so sorry to read about poor Bowie, at least you can do the kindest thing for him now.
Lainey, I hope your mum is feeling a little better today x

We were supposed to be having the grand children to stay but it looks as though their dad has decided to keep them instead. They will be coming to stay in the week so I predict much excitement.

Well, my bacon is smelling lovely so I am off to make a bacon butty for me and hubby. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
• Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one especially Jackie O's family, so sad for them.

We are going to the carol service at the little chapel tonight, so will be eating at lunch time. Depends on how my voice holds up we may also go carol singing round the village on Thursday night.

A different day from yesterday, it was lovely and bright, this morning its grey and overcast. I did put the laundry out yesterday and got it mostly dry, finished it off on the airers.

My niece is coming for lunch tomorrow so need to make a loaf, planning soup and sandwiches. She will collect the presents for her family and sister.

No real plans for the week apart from Wednesday when OH has another appointment at the hospital, if my ex is still in may well go and visit him whilst we are there. I am hoping they will keep him in until there is some sort of care package in place. Need to speak to my eldest daughter.

I found the double sided tape yesterday so the angels are now firmly fixed to the window, it works well, but is a b****r to get off the glass when I take the decs down, which will be on boxing day.
• DOCKY, THE PRINCE OF BELFAST, JESS and ALL the other canine family that we've been lucky enough to have shared our lives with over the years will be waiting for BOWIE when he crosses the rainbow bridge and they will surround him with their love and make him happy. They also, somehow unknown to us mere humans will send their love and gentle licks and rubs round legs to Jackie and her family and show Bowie how to visit home once in a while to comfort his humans and help them through the sadness. Wonderful beings doggies, they may NOT be physically present but that doesn't mean they aren't still living with you and making sure you're OK!!!

I second every word MrsLW just said. My lovely PENNY will be there for him also; and doubtless my dear friends CAMERON, CANDY, PEGGY SUE, SADIE, PIP, SIDNY, BAILEY, and of course DYLAN who will be so happy to show another Lurcher around.

I didn't get around to posting yesterday, but I did do some paw-healing magic for Scampi. Has he got to wear a Cone of Shame while his foot heals, to stop him licking at it?

Lainey I hope your DM is able to enjoy some more interesting food with her stent in place. Great that they got on and did it straight away.

I have to confess to having a really hard time with the BD right now; it's a tad worrying, because I'm on the highest dose of anti-d's already, so there's nothing else to be done for me. And it's hard to keep trying to look cheerful, when all you really want to do is sit and bawl your eyes out. I can't tell Mr LW, but I feel I can offload here; I hope you all don't mind - thanks.

Oh well, next battle - we're in need of milk, so it's a trip to @ldi; my stock of tinned toms is depleted too, so must rectify that.
