In my most recent monthly review I was considered to have a really positive impact since my arrival and the only complaints made about me were small things that I'm improving on whilst I work and gain more experience.

I see your point of view but I'm an honest, proud hard working person and I do my best to not let anyone down. That's why I was surprised to see the post because if I didn't care and make sacrifices to try and develop and be the best at my job then I wouldn't give a damn about what's been said about me on Facebook.

It is beginning to sound more like this manager being a bit of an idiot but obviously I don't know either of you.

Everyone has to start somewhere and you are still so young but I don't think you want to work for someone who has so little respect for you.

Please read my post above about your reference and just think how lucky you are to have found another job which is probably much better so quickly.

I appreciate that there's two sides to every story and my manager would probably have a very different view of the situation.

I've read your advice about the reference and I think it's probably the right approach as it's honest but not confrontational. Although I still have reservations about how they'll react.

To answer your other question, my name wasn't used in the Facebook post, it featured my picture and had a long caption but not my name.

That is good news then that nobody can accidentally come across the Facebook post by searching for you by name.

I forgot to add earlier that once you have spoken to your old boss to ask for the reference then you should confirm what has been said in writing, preferably by e-mail as you will then have confirmation that it was sent.

    Good luck!!
