Words like "libel" you know....that sort of thing...if it applies to newspapers then I would imagine it must apply to Facebook.
That multi billion dollar company must be quaking in their boots! :rotfl:0 -

"Libel" applies where false written statements about a person are published and nowhere in this thread has the OP stated that what the MD has said is false.0 -

Why should you have to accept an unfair world, I don't understand why you think I should resign myself to the notion that I'm powerless. Such ideas are what creates injustice and unfairness because people think that they're small, their boss is big and they can't win no matter what.
If that's genuinely the case then why aren't people doing something about it?0 -

You are not powerless per se but things like this are not worth pursuing and the fact that your manager owns a company and employs people does mean that he has power over those people, however he should not abuse this power.
You didn't answer my earlier question about how old you are but I am guessing that you are quite young and haven't yet seen just how unfair the world can be.
Honestly rather than get upset about minor injustices it is better to concentrate your energies on the things that are really important in life.
Half of the problem with coming to a forum like this and describing what happened is that we have no idea what your manager actually posted about you and therefore people end up speculating.
Why don't you post here what your manager posted on the Facebook post and take out any details that identify you and we will be able to give you our opinions on whether you are being unfairly treated?0 -
Actually - at a very basic level - if this manager genuinely has concerns about the work standards of OP - then the way to deal with this is properly.
Properly = by having a word with the employee at work in work hours and explaining what they need to do to "come up to scratch" and whether they need any further training to enable them to be able to do their job better. Hopefully this would work.
If OP genuinely can't do the job to a reasonable standard and still can't manage it after having this explained to them and/or further training if required = then it's time to "let them go".
Nowhere in the course of this process is it a part of it to "shame" them on Facebook.
Either OP can do their job to a suitable standard - in which case the manager is doing personal b*tching and that is not acceptable.
Or OP can't do their job to a suitable standard - in which case then the manager should follow appropriate procedures (as outlined above).0 -

I am in my mid twenties to answer your earlier question.
I'm not upset, I'm just interested in peoples opinion on a situation. I don't think posting any extra information will change the diversity of the opinions that are arising from this discussion.0 -

Yes, that would all seem to be good practice.
I don't think anybody here has exactly applauded the manager's conduct. However that doesn't mean he has done anything illegal or even, necessarily, anything that would be open to civil action.
Even if he had there is still the matter of whether it is realistically viable to take any action. Somebody once said "only rich men and publicity seekers sue for libel"!
Then we still come back to whether what was said, however unpleasant, was basically true. Not once has the OP suggested it was actually untrue.0 -

Obviously you are well within your rights not to re-post your manager's post but as I said earlier without knowing what he said about you then everybody is just giving you their general opinion on the situation as opposed to accurate opinions based on the actual facts of the matter.0 -
I wonder what sort of group it was posted on and what the manager was hoping to gain by it? Does he realise anyone can read it? Have you asked him about it? He might just be a bit of an !!!!.0

I can't believe people here are defending this !!!!!! of a manager
This is NOT a professional way to behave.
If an employer has concerns about an employee they need to approach them at work , not go airing it in a public forum
Imagine if everyone behaved like this0
