Landlord Filming Property

Hi all, hopefully someone can help.
Yesterday, I became aware that my landlord (Housing association) was making a "promotional film" in front of mine and my neighbour's houses. They went as far as to come onto the property without permission and remove items from my front garden.
I'm not particularly impressed, and I closed all blinds as they were only a few feet away from my house and the cameras would most definitely have captured the inside of my house had I not done this.

We were given no prior warning, a film crew and a presenter just rocked up yesterday and started filming.

As someone who has values their privacy for safety reasons (long story, but previous DV and non molestation orders involved), this was a massive intrusion for me. They were filming on private property, and whilst I'm aware that they own that property, surely the rent we pay for our houses and private car park should prevent them from doing this? Or do I not have a leg to stand on?

What do you want to happen now?

Why didn't you tell them at the time that you weren't happy? I can't see what you can do about it now, they've probably finished.

Why did'nt you go out? What did'nt you call the Police?
  • I did tell them at the time that I wasn't happy however they just said they had permission and carried on.

What I want to do is ensure that this footage doesn't become publicly available and to ensure this doesn't happen in future.

The time to act was when they arrived.

They can film your house from the roadway/pavement, but not on your property.

Anyway you need to go to court to have the footage removed, which probably isn't worth it

The footage most definitely will be publically available.

You should've stood your ground and explained they are on private property and you do not allow filming. (next call police)
  • Does it make any difference that the roadway is private property (private car park) and not public?

They told me that the landlord owns the property and gave them permission.

I have no idea about my rights at all in this situation and have been trying to find out what I can do. Someone recommended this site to me.

I didn't even think of calling the police as I didn't realise they could have been breaking the law :/

Write (yes, WRITE! - keep copy) to your landlord stating you require an apology & that no shots you are unhappy with may be used - so you will need approval of final version. 'Phone them today to inform them of this, and mention that this was a breach of your right to "quite enjoyment" (a legal expression.. ), that you regard it as harassment (both a civil & criminal matter) and if any images are shown you are unhappy with you are minded to request legal action on both a civil & criminal basis.

Do let us know what their reply is.

What sort of tenancy do you have (there are several HA tenancy types..)??

When did you move in? Ever been any issues between you & landlord?
How long do you wish to continue living in your current home?

I very much doubt they were committing any criminal offence.

And yes, they are allowed to film in their own car park.

If you have concerns about privacy/security caused by the film being published then by all means raise them (you will need to be specific about what you're expecting - if you're not in the film then what's the DV/molestation concern?), but I doubt there is anything legal you can do.

And how many people do you think are actually going to watch your landlord's promotional film?

This Housing Association video could be the next Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones.

In all honesty, what is going to identify the OP as it being their house? It's just another house and this video is more than likely going to be internal promotion/training.

I understand people having anxiety, but it can be rationalised. What is the worst that is going to happen, realisitically?
