I thought the same about the wheel but I can just tell that it wasn't one that was there previously, the inflation pipe was completely different, and I knew this because I had some anti-theft dust caps at the time that I had on all the wheels.

So they've changed the valve... not necessarily the wheel.

Stop reading forums and get someone to do a proper inspection and put it into writing. Spouting off at the garage is pointless without some facts.

If you can prove where the fault actually and not what it might be then you will get further. At present they are humouring you.

  • A stretched timing chain won't cause a significant decrease in performance unless it subsequently causes the chain to jump a tooth. As the previous poster said I'd suspect the air mass flow meter might be the problem - to test just unplug it and see if there's any improvement.

Can you please stick to one thread? I have asked you nicely. It is possible to just keep adding to one of the umpteen threads you have running already discussing the same issues.

If at first you don't strike oil, stop bor(e)ing.

If you post an update, the thread will go back to the top of the listing and everyone will see there are new posts in it.

There are no new posts because your mechanic says the chain has stretched but didnt do a proper full inspection of it. And your doubting whether he said that to get money from you. Because he knows there wont be many jobs he cannot fix it for less and pocket the change.
If its something costly like a split head or similar he will wont fix it, but will come back saying its going to cost more because it needs a head as well.

Unless you get a proper independant inspection where they will put it in writing with proper details not just stretched chain. Stretched by how much and how far out is the timing?

Then you wont get any further forward so whats to read?

I don't think the coil pack suggestion was unreasonable - I had the same problem in an Astra of the same age and a new coil pack fixed it. The garage (Vauxhall dealer who did the work under warranty) said it is a common issue.

Trying to stick with the same thread here, and I do apologise for posting this numerous times those few months ago as I understand now that I was a tad annoying. Being honest, this is the first proper forum that I've ever used really, I never realised that they go to the top of the thread list when there's an update posted. So I am sorry for that and I have learnt all about it. But I'm really in need of some advice now..

So things have generally gotten worse with the power issues, to a point I was stuck in a little motorway congestion last week when the car just decided to jerk backwards and forwards severely, and shortly down the line, I dipped my clutch to stop and a few seconds later, my engine just cut out like a stall, though I didn't stall, my clutch was down.

I managed to start up after about two attempts and managed to get the car home. I called the AA to come out and inspect and the technician explained how he thought it could be the coil pack, they often go in Corsas so I told him he was welcome to check but JCT placed a new one in a few months ago. He pulled it out, said it smelt like burning but confirmed it was fairly new.

Anyway, there was no faults showing on his computer, but we took it for a test drive and he also confirmed to me that he didn't feel like it was running how it should be. But he advised me to take it back to JCT600.

I forwarded the breakdown report to the sales manager and a service advisor and the manager invited me in. He took my car for a test drive and questioned me about the dashboard rattling, I just told him that had been there since day one of having the car, it didn't really bother me. And every little thing, he kept saying the engine wasn't ticking over right, didn't sound right, didn't feel right.

He got the service manager out to inspect, who I dealt with just before Christmas, they took the car for a drive, came back to me in the waiting area and said they were going to strip the engine and look for problems and get back to me. I was happy to wait. And after an hour or two, they came to me telling me they'd found the cause of my dashboard rattle. So I said "Well that's all well and good, but what about the power issues?" And they looked at each other like they'd forgotten, they just said the car was running normally but they would strip the engine and have a look all the same.

This is where the lies start:
They came out to me, telling me that they'd stripped the engine, found no issues with it. And shortly after, the main technician who worked on my car came out to me and asked me to go take the car for a test drive with him. I'll admit the rattle was gone although the jerkiness between changing gears was still apparent. I asked him about it and he said they'd investigated the engine, found no issues and he'd driven it down the motorway and everywhere and it seemed fine. So I took the car home and removed the memory card from my dash-cam, that I don't think they realised was there, and my car never went down the motorway. I forgot I'd agreed to let the sales manager have a drive of my car, so I drove back in and kicked off at the service manager, I told them that my car never for one minute went down the motorway.
"Oh, urm, we took it to the top of the motorway" which the footage does prove. I'm almost sure the technician told me he'd taken it down the motorway, but I could have misheard so I didn't argue after that. But they're arguing that my car is running fine, even the sales manager changed his tune and I got into an argument with him at the end after all the trouble I have had since getting the car. They pretty much sent me home saying without any computer codes, there's nothing they can do. I understand that it's hard to find issues without codes, I really do. But I told them that they'd rather see my car all smashed up from an accident after breaking down on the motorway, and me in a hospital bed before they'll deem something wrong with the car.

But this one just tops it off. I carefully reviewed more of the dash-cam footage when I got home. Remember me saying that they'd told me they'd stripped my engine and found no issues? Well they didn't realise they'd left the camera running throughout the investigation and I know different. They were just looking under the bonnet for what could be causing the rattle I assume, but there is no removing the engine block to inspect whatsoever. The camera pretty much shows these guys just wandering around and smirking.

I've been really quite stressed about the matter this weekend, and not really knowing where to turn. I was pretty scared last week when it just conked out on the middle of the motorway, and it's like they just don't care. And they've just lied to me, washed their hands of me.

Do I have any rights to just demand my money back with this? And even claim compensation for the work I've had done elsewhere to try and correct the faults? It's making me wonder why this five year old car has had three previous owners before myself, on a fairly low mileage of 29,000 when I got it..I've tried finding the previous owner on Facebook, and I messaged him asking if he ever had any issues with the car but he never replied to me.

What rights do I have? What can I do now?
