Florence Break - advice needed

Personally I'd fly to Bologna and stay there - Bologna itself is a great city ( especially if you like food) , and accommodation a lot cheaper than Florence- and then get the high speed train ( frecchiarossa/frecchiaargenta) to Florence - 40 minutes, not expensive and IIRC about twice an hour services.0

If I remember rightly, they only have sales once a year in Italy so the January sales will be on.
