So,this afternoon I was sorting out what I have bought my children for Christmas.Seems there is a bit of an imbalance between younger kids, and the 2 teens .
I am looking for ideas for my 14yo girl.I have been thinking along the lines of make-up/beauty stuff, but ,since I don't wear make-up myself,I really don't know what I am doing .
Some thoughts I had,(but any others, please let me know.Browsing around Boots the other day, there are make-up products around I never knew existed,so really ,any ideas are aprreciated.)
-a nice pallette of eye shadow (please suggest your favourite brands)
-make-up set (again,what sort?
-she has a pair of hair tongs, but the other day,in Boots,I saw a JML "Simply Straight heated ceramic brush".Is this type of thing any good?
-she doesn't seem to have too many make-up brushes/sponges.What am I looking for in these?
As you can see.I really have no idea.
Really, any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi, I can't be much help as i'm new to makeup myself (at the grand old age of almost 38!) but I *am* a big kid at heart, and Benefit do some beautiful & fun packaging that i'm sure would appeal to her age group (but I can't speak for how good the makeup is personally) . . have a look on their website, they do sets of pretty much everything too
Also, I know you said makeup, but today there is £20 off of Marc Jacobs Dot perfume @ Boots (it ends today), and it's now £30 not £60, lovely & fun packaging & it smells great & not too overpowering (I think a 14yr old would love it)
I think Beauty Blenders are popular for applying makeup & you can find those literally anywhere, they are sponges in pinks/oranges & purples usually & used to apply makeup
I can say the Kylie (Jenner) lip kits are fab, I paid £11 for mine & they contain a lip liner & liquid lipstick & are insanely easy to apply & stay on, perfect for me as applying isn't my forte
Anyway, plenty more will be along to help i'm sure, and many will KNOW what they are on about, but please do have a look at Benefit's sets x0 -
Thank you UKTigerlily,I will have a look at all of those. It is so hard when you have no experience of these things.
You are doing well, starting make-up at the tender age of 38.I am 49,and the only time I really wore make-up was when you were aged 7,and I was making my debut .
Feeling very old now.

It depends on how much you want to spend really, if you want to give her a real treat Mac or Benefit would be lovely, if she's just starting out and isn't really bothered about brands Superdrug have Gosh, MUA and Models Own that are popular with teens, also Barry M are great for nail polish and lipstick. For eyeliner look for a felt tip pen type, they're easy to apply for inexperienced hands and don't smudge like pencils.
My 15yo gets through cleansing wipes at a rate of knots, I uaually buy own brand but have got her some fancy brands for her stocking.
Brushes, look for a set with a good selection of sizes, they have those in Superdrug too Make up sponges are very popular, (being old school I prefer my fingers). Eyelash curlers are very popular too.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
It depends really on what/who she is into.
If she watches Youtubers like Zoella or Tanya Burr, she would be delighted with a make up set from them. Tanya Burr products have good reviews.
Or is there a particular celebrity that she looks up to, like Kat Von D, Kylie Jenner etc, they both do make up too.
Re Make up brushes/sets, i don't think you can go wrong with Real Techniques brushes. If she doesn't have any already, I'd go for a multi purpose one like the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. This can be used as a foundation brush as well as to blend concealer and do contouring.
A beauty blender is a nice idea too, and not too expensive.
Good luck!0 -
what is your budget?
primark have some really good brush cans and clear boxes to organize makeup. superdrug'-s lottie brushes and real techniques are brilliant.
i saw some great sets in elizabeth arden and the like, however i would prefer giving good tools so she can get away with using budget friendly ranges.
did you consider a skincare regieme for her so some gentle cleanser, toner and moisturizer. it will keep her skin healthy.0 -
Me (46), my sister(36) and my niece (15) love this range from Superdrug, really reasonable prices too.http://www.superdrug.com/Eye-Shadow-%26-Palettes/c/eye-shadow?q=%3AbestBiz%3Abrand%3A412007%3Abrand%3A408001&text=&minSel=1.0&maxSel=38.0&minSlider=1.0&maxSlider=38.0&resultsForPage=20&brand408001=on#0

I thought I was the only one who didn't wear makeup, nowadays. (well, perhaps, for special occasions about twice a year).
I hate the feel of the stuff and the idea of animal suffering, but a benefit is that at nearly 68, my skin is almost wrinkle free.0 -
but a benefit is that at nearly 68, my skin is almost wrinkle free.
That may well have been true years ago in the days of old, but for a number of years make up has been totally harmless.
Modern make up is packed with skin beneficial ingredients & is wonderful for the skin.
I think wrinkles are part lifestyle (care taken & sun avoidance - that's the biggie) & part genetics.0 -

If you are after budget brands, then sleek is a range from Superdrug that's very reasonable & I often see it mentioned on blogs.
If you want to splurge then benefit is really popular with girls or the urban decay naked pallet (my daughter doesn't rate it though, but it's a cult classic).
Has she GHDs? Youngsters love them, there are all sorts of offers now.
Real techniques is a range of brushes sold in Superdrug & boots, they are lovely brushes in nice sets, at a reasonable price.0 -
I'm not much help as I don't wear a lot, but I do read blogs and watch a lot of YouTube videos ...
The Collection range gets good reviews by bloggers/vloggers - especially the palettes and concealer - very affordable http://www.superdrug.com/brandshop/collection0
