See,I told you I know nothing about make-up :D.Having had another google of images, yes, only need one blender. Is that instead of an assortment of make-up sponges?Or are they used for different things again?

One blender & a few brushes.

my daughter's latest make-up purchase has been this -

    http://www.newlook.com/shop/womens/beauty/trio-strobe-highlighter-palette_387593970

she's impressed with the new packaging of these products, and this one in particular is a good natural one to start with.

this, in contrast, is the highlight kit my niece has asked for -

    (very popular I believe)
  • If you do decide to get any Kylie cosmetics stuff then get it off a legit site as there are so many fakes and theres been stories of people having reactions to the fakes.

For a beauty blender go for the Real Techniques one, its about £6 and personally I think its a lot better than the actual beauty blender which is £16.

I agree with the previous person who suggested Sleek, they have some nice palettes. My sister is nearly 16 and loves Nyx Cosmetics which they now sell in Boots.

Smashbox is a nice brand sold at Boots and they have some fab gift sets this year. It might be worth looking at the new stake eyeshadow crayons because you would then not need to invest in brushes too and your daughter will not need much skill to apply the product.

If you are looking for skincare the Garnier Mcellar water cleansers are really gentle and I don't think these would strip her skin. A Simpke or similar moisturiser would probably be OK for her unless her skin is oily and then I would look for advice at instore.

    HTH.
Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

  • I've just ordered from Smashbox today! They have an offer of a free eyeshadow brush :)

Just thought of another brand! Too Faced do some amazing eyeshadow palettes, the chocolate bar ones actually smell like chocolate too! They sell that on debenhams website.

I would go for sleek make-up and real techniques brushes as already suggested - you can get the brushes from TKMaxx sometimes, and also the 'eco-tools' brushes Ive found to be better than ones Ive got from No.7. I got some 'eco-tools brushes for my older sister last christmas, she was amazed with them. They're very good but I got them because she was using the same blusher brush that features is one of my earliest memories: putting make up on in her room when I wasnt supposed to touch her stuff but she was at school so I snuck in - Im 34 now.

Also, if you chose anything such as eyeshadows/lipsticks I would chose a pallet with quite a few colours for experimentation.

Some specifics if it helps, although it is always personal choice:
Good: No7 mascara, bourgios foundation base and concelers - their 123 colour corrector, especially if she would like to avoid the (typically teenage) caked on with loads of make-up look, No7 blush stick things. Sleek eyebrow kit. Rimmel 'Kate' lipsticks are suprisingly good.
I would avoid: Rimmel mascara, revlon eyeshadows, bourgios and mabeline mascaras.

Thank you again everyone for your help.I didn't feel nearly as silly saying to the girl in the store "I have been asking for advice online, and these were suggested to me" than I would have been if I'd just been wandering around the store blindly:o.
