Around here Oxfordshire I live in a expensive part. girlfriends parent's got v lucky with house prices and are not in position to help. Christmas temp work is all taken up or were near similar hours to my contracted so no go. For time being we are gonna stay with her parents which I will struggle with. Gf has a couple of interviews for good paying jobs so fingers crossed. I've applied for hundreds of jobs. I have no prob with hard work just need the job to do it

Try to both get full time jobs in a cheaper part of Oxfordshire?
  • Well I can't afford to buy :( Both of us working full time allow us to afford to rent, we could never afford it on part time wages.

    Move to a cheaper part?
  • I'd look into renting a room. My living in a room on a part time wage was done in Oxford, so it is possible.

In your situation what most people do is just "put up with it".

For renting, they'd be looking to rent a double room in a shared house with bills included. I suspect you've got some airy fairy dream about "your own lovely place, with a separate bedroom" ... that's for people with a lot more income than you two have in most places.

Didn't realise there was loads of replies. I'm not young I understand how life works, I'm no Snowflake, I have 10k saved, I could only get a part time job with set hours plus flexible overtime, I've applied for other jobs was offered the same job in other shop but hours clashed with my pt job no couldn't do, I have a good degree, so far this week I have done 50 hours and over the weekend I'll do another 12, so yes I know what hard work is thanks. I can't live in a shared place cos I have ocd at least where I am it's understood and as for cheaper place to live I've been looking at small flats and houses they still go for lots in the cheap area

    I have a good degree,

With all due respect you clearly don't. Or you're not utilising it.

The income figures you state are shocking for a graduate of any distinction.

If you have 10K in the bank you should be renting not living with parents.
  • Have you tried offering to pay 6 months rent up front, as you have the money? If that doesn't work and you won't rent a room for whatever reason, getting a job with proper set hours might be the only option. You can carry on saving so when you do get that job you could be in a position to buy? I assume as you've a degree you're looking for something paying more than shop work as a long term goal, but no need to stop saving in the interim.

Lodging might be better than a houseshare - at least you can meet the LL and see how they keep the place without worrying that housemates will change suddenly. Think about it? No harm done in going to see a place then deciding not to take it.

I clearly do thanks. I agree I'm not utilising it but it was a choice of pt job in this or none. I was in the job before I moved areas for many reasons. Also I've tried to rent with this savings but we still needed to have 30x or they couldn't gaurentee me the safety if I handed over the full amount. Never mind I only came here to get it off my chest did that now I'm going to work cos apparently I don't understand hard work..Yay another 12 hours..Fun not

    No you don't.

You either move area or accept your situation. I've no idea what "safety" you are on about.

And if you're doing that many hours you're not part time.
