  • I wonder if Tesco already have recordings ready to install that state things such as "Ramadan Mubarak" and "happy Hanukkah"?

I used to use the mute button but you have to cycle through making it louder first (that is, it's set to volume level 2, so you have to click through 3, 4, and 5 before you get to 0). It also resets between customers.

    All machines had been muted
I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.

I always press the mute button when I go to the self checkouts as it stops the unexpected item in the bagging area :j My local Tesco is great they donate so much for charity - coffee and pancakes etc for coffee mornings and gifts for tombolas etc. They are having a coffee morning in a local church hall this few days and nights with pancakes cakes mincepies and coffee or tea all for the price of a donation for charity. They are trying to get in to the Guiness book of records as the longest coffee morning.

    Top Tip

The Tesco self service terminals have a mute button which has the universal sign for a mute button

I have friends that work in supermarkets and they hate customers muting the self scans as it stays muted for the next customer. Plus if the 'traffic light' bollard above the self scan isn't working, the cashier cannot see if the customer needs attention etc.

  • My Tesco is the same. Drove me mad and I was in there less than 5 minutes. I only went in to buy some humbugs.

I think that is in really bad taste, for lots of people for one reason or another this will not be a 'Happy Christmas'

It's hardly bad taste having seasonal greetings on self service checkout. The vast majority of the world see the light hearted humor to it! That's what this time of the year is about to most people so no I don't think it's bad taste just simply adding an appropriate seasonal atmosphere to things. I think you're being over sensitive.

Even if Tesco were to get rid of this greeting, what about all the "merry/Happy Christmas" banners both inside and outside many other shops, the Christmas music being played all over the place, carols on the radio, Christmas adverts on the TV and every newspaper in the country with Christmas adverts?
