Avuncular Tesco Self Service Checkouts.

Just been to grab a sarnie for lunch from the Tesco across the road.

Some Golgafrincham Ark B candidate Marketing Droid has decided it would be a good idea that the Self Service Checkouts should say "Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas". All 8 Machines. Every time someone pays. You can hear the damn things over the whole shop.

I commiserated with the poor girl on the manual checkout about them, she looked ready to slit her wrists.

Best I can do with text for the effect on the human mind ...

(
"Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas" "Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas" "Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas"
"Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas" "Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas" "Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas" "Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas" "Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas" "Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas" "Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas" "Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas"

) X 7 hours !

I hope ours hasn't got that 'facility' but fear it probably has. Christmas muzak is bad enough.

ANY muzak is bad enough! Did what little shopping I needed for Christmas weeks ago - vegies will be bought from the local farm shop (no turkey - we're vegetarian).

Was about to pop into the local £ shop today just because I was passing, heard the racket coming from inside and didn't bother. OK, they only lost probably a couple of £s (£5 at the most) but if enough others did the same, following up with an email giving an explanation as to why they walk straight past their door there's a slim possibility things will change.

    Those poor assistants.

I think that is in really bad taste, for lots of people for one reason or another this will not be a 'Happy Christmas'

Whatever has happened in people lives they need to shop, when people are feeling down they might choose a self service to avoid having to speak to anyone, just image if someone has recently lost their husband/wife/child or received bad news how would they feel having a machine blurt out "Merry Christmas"

If you're quick you can get away from the Ho Ho Ho before it starts. I did today.
  • Will check for the mute button on the self-service till before commencing checkout. Sounds awfull...

The muzak is there to remind us it's Xmas in case we didn't know.
You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

  • No store music being played and all the automatic tills were set to silent!

  • I used to use the mute button but you have to cycle through making it louder first (that is, it's set to volume level 2, so you have to click through 3, 4, and 5 before you get to 0). It also resets between customers.
