American Express Credit Card - Maximise cashback

I have spent a lot of money (about £3K) on my credit card recently. I receive 1p for every £4 spent on my Tesco credit card.

In hindsight I should of opened an American Express Credit Card who offer 5% cashback for the first 3 months. I could of earned £125 cashback.

I am thinking about opening this credit card now. Are there any tips for paying as much as you can on your credit card. Ideas I had were:

1) Balance Transfers - there is currently £1K on my Tesco credit card due to be paid on 22/12/16. However, American Express do not allow balance transfers.
2) Pay for mortgage on credit card. However, mortgage company do not allow this.
3) Pay mortgage overpayment on credit card. However, mortgage company do not allow this.
4) Pay for utilities on credit card. Cannot do this because direct debits are needed for cashback on current account.

My only option is to pay for shopping (about £50 per week) on credit card. That is £600 over 3 months.

What else can I do to maximise the cashback except spend more than normal? For example, is it possible to delay registering the credit card after you have received it and hence delay the start of the three month period? I did ask American Express about this and they said they "weren't sure" making me think this is negotiable.

buy large items for someone who was going to pay cash - as long as they give you the cash straight away.
holidays, car insurance, petrol, train tickets

Even if Amex offered a BT that would not qualify for cashback.
Amex works best if you are putting a decent amount through it. I keep paying down some of mine even though it is on 0% just because I get 1.25% cashback on everything I spend.

Go christmas shopping with a family member or friend and pay on your card and let them transfer/pay you in cash.

If you PM me i can give you a referal so you get 22000 points when you sign up. ( you do need to spend within the first 3 months to get it)

I thought of this as well, however my friends and family also have cashback cards, so they will miss out on their offers if they help me out. That would not be fair. What is the referral? A voucher code? A hyperlink (like Quidco) etc?

Why do I have to PM you first (sorry - I am not sure how these things work!).

For limited offers like these then gift cards are often a good option. Load them up within the first three months and then soend on shopping over the rest of the year, or longer depending on the terms and conditions.
