Windows 10 restart

Just a warning to anyone who might be in the middle of using their computer tonight - Windows 10 might be planning a sneaky re-start if you leave your computer unattended.

Whose computer is it anyway, Microsoft?

So sick of this new "feature".

And yes, I have disabled it. And yes, the Microsoft police re-set it. Grrrrr.

This is a feature that needs to go. Nobody wants it.

    You're kidding me?! That's crazy.

I'll stick with Windows 7 a bit longer, then... :-/
  • Also this message is appearing on my Virgin Media web page with regard to Windows 10 PC's......

We are aware that some customers using windows PCs are having issues getting online following a Microsoft Windows 10 update. We are in contact with Microsoft about this issue and will provide further updates as soon as possible.

Presently I have Vista operating system, so not affected, but plan on buying a Windows 10 laptop soon, so was wondering if this kind of thing is something that happens frequently?
    Thank you.

I also wanted to stick with Windows 7 but it's too late.. My computer had updated to W 10 by himself.

all too frequently unfortunately.... if you can get a decent refurb/2nd hand with W7 on it, you'll be better off.......

  • If you have a Wi-Fi connection you can "Set as Metered connection" to On, this will prevent updates downloading. I use Settings > Update & Security > Check for Update it tells you if there are updates available. To set it on click on Wi-Fi icon on Task Bar at bottom right, click on the Wi-Fi network you are connected to then click Properties, "Set as Metered connection" to On

I have 2 Windows 10 computers so I download the updates from http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/ and copy the .MSU files to my other computer, they open like .EXE.

Tempted GunJack, although I read getting updates with Windows 7 is virtually as bad as with Vista.

The most irritating thing for me is auto update on shut down. "do not turn off until update is complete" Always seems to happen when I am about to leave with my laptop.

Or too avoid "random" restarts you could set the working hours which it will not try to restart in. These default to 9-5ish I think.
