Perhaps someone knows about a forth coming Apocalypse.
Only joking.
Sure it wasn't people stocking up Xmas parties?
I was in Waitrose just over 3 weeks ago. Staff reported to me that they had one of the busiest weekends and could not figure out why.
Neither could I. Was after Nov 5 and Halloween, no major sport or national event. Go figure !
I think tinned food is the way to go in an apocalypse, tins would double as anti-zombie projectiles too.
All those world famous milk and bread parties!
I mean seriously though, if we get so much snow as to prevent travel to a supermarket, we're more likely to experience power cuts and even at outdoor temperatures milk/bread is still going to go off.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

My mums house, normally just her and Dad, at Christmas there is 6 of us sometimes.
My in-laws have 18 people for Christmas some years.
The extra people will probably want bread and milk!
Or maybe they are all making bread and butter pudding!
But Xmas day is 10 days away. I have yet to a loaf of bread with a 10 day best before date. The more I live, the more I learn.

It lasts months in the freezer. As does milk.

I freeze bread regularly and milk very occasionally. Both things take up loads of space in my freezer, which means there is a lot less room for real food.
Anyone with a family of small children is going to get through a lot more milk than those who use it in tea and coffee only. Ditto bread, rounds of toast for breakfast, or a sandwich / bread and soup makes an easy lunchtime meal. In a family of 5, that is a whole loaf in one day.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I never understood the buying frenzy myself and my colleagues that I have discussed this with.
Over Christmas Day and Boxing Day, between the 3 of us - we will use 1 pint of milk for teas and coffees and a third of a loaf of bread. My colleagues consume similar amounts, which is below average for them.
Also, noticed more people buying bleach of all things! Why?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
The shops should shut on Boxing Day in my opinion, but alas that stopped about 20 years ago.
It started with one retailer - unsure which one as noticed no law for shops to be closed on Boxing Day then all the others followed suit within a couple of years. Noticed today when I was in town, the main shopping centre is closed on NYD.
I think those who shop on Boxing Day have never worked in retail. My colleagues and I don't go out shopping on Boxing Day on principal. Even one of my colleagues ran out of batteries for her kids' toys and took the batteries out from the tv remote in the kitchen as she didn't want to visit a shop on BD>This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I've noticed a lot more places not bothering on New Years Day, particularly if they sell non-essentials. I remember the rare occasion I worked it (would rather work Boxing Day as less of a hangover) NYD was really really quiet as I think everyone was hungover at home.0 -
