Smart Wifi Thermostat, do you have one?

  • I have a Nest and can't recommend it highly enough, also like the monthly email I get with stats etc on energy I have saved and the reasons (warmer weather, manually being turned down etc). Plus it looks pretty good mounted on the wall.

I also have the Nest smoke detectors which are also great and I believe if they detect carbon monoxide they tell your Nest Thermostat to turn off the heating,

Also, if you set it up to detect when you have left the house, it will lower the temperature, but if the Nest detects movement it knows someone else is in the house so will turn back on. You can also individually select the Nest protect smoke detectors to also detect movement.

I have a Salus. I suspect Hive and Nest are much better, but it does do the job. Very handy if you're heading home and it's cold.

Also find the online scheduling much easier (although the Salus App/Website could be a lot, lot better)

Also, when you're on holiday you can tell it to shut down.
  • I have Hive. Wonderful invention as my boiler is so old you turned it on or off with a switch - no thermostat. £249 with installation and BG customers get 20% off. I also have smart lights so I can sit in my car and turn on the hallway light if hammering it down so i can put my key in the door easier.

Having an Amazon Echo is also cool as I often forget to turn off the hall light so instead of going downstairs can now just say, Alexa, hall light off and it turns off.

[Edit]:- for those who want a fuller smart home, Nest is the better as they do smoke alarms, CCTV, lights, heating, smart plugs plus much more where Hive only do lights, heating and smart plugs

I'm sure the burglars will appreciate that, at this time of year

My Nest Smoke detectors also have a night light that comes on when it detects movement,.. so if they break in at night they won't have to fumble around in the dark either,.
