Smart Wifi Thermostat, do you have one?

I have a good old fashion one, it's semi-smart and semi-stupid :rotfl:
Do you have one of those hive or nest thermostats and would your recommend one for central heating (using a combi boiler)?
The one I have works fine, though it'd be handy to be able to program remotely and/or using geolocation...

I'd recommend the Nest. They are quite expensive (£200 retail), but npower are currently selling them for £129. I don't think you have to be a customer of theirs either. I recently moved and had to leave my Nest behind as I didn't want to pay for someone to uninstall it and replace it with a 'dumb' thermostat. I've just bought a new one from npower and installed it myself as the combi boiler in the new house had simple wiring (disconnect four wires from one stat, connect them to the corresponding points on the new stat, then turn it on), otherwise its another £50 to get them professionally installed.0

that's a good price, though only for NPower customers - is it difficult to install?EU expat working in London0

We have a Hive and I'd certainly recommend them. Installation is a five minute job if you already have a programmer with a standard backplate.
Removing it and replacing it with the old "dumb" programmer would take the same amount of time.0 -
Also have a hive and it works well. If you have a lifestyle where you are out a lot or come home at different hours then it works well. Less need if you are very regular in your heating pattern. Don't need to be a British Gas customer to have one and I'm not.0

I went for OWL.
I wanted water time/temp control of a tank as well.0 -
I have a Nest (I also have a Nest Protect). I'm fairly happy with it.0

Can you attach these to old boilers? We just moved where the boiler is a 30y/o valliant combi, still working... and not sure if it's worth the bother!0

For those of you with HIVE, do you also use extra bits like door sensors, etc?EU expat working in London0

I have hive. I use it to control two zones for heating and hot water. Simple and convenient to use and I am pleased with it."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
