O/S Daily Tuesday 13 December 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark, not raining, but still damp and dirty on the roads and footpaths, temperature is going to rise again later today - we'll see.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work, DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, tonight will be disjointed as DS2 and myself are heading off to his graduation ceremony for the National Citizens Service Award that he completed, it's in the next town, so we'll be heading over there this afternoon after he's finished college, I will do some shopping and treat him to some dinner out before going to the ceremony. I have some theatre tickets to collect for a show that DH and I are going to in January and I always get my parents a gift voucher from the same theatre for their xmas prezzie as they don't want/need for anything, so that's the best thing to buy them, they then chose what they want to see and when and use the voucher to pay for the tickets. I also need to buy DH some aftershave, and I'll have a look at the perfumes, although we have a store in town where it's all very good prices so if they can't beat those I'll buy it in my home town.

I want to get the xmas cards written and sorted today, so that's a job to get done, and may attempt some wrapping too, but that's not such a worry as I can do that at the end of the week.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone.

Thanks for starting us off nmlc.

I woke in the middle of the night because I was so hot, had to waft the duvet a couple of times. Most odd.

My meetings in Oban were very productive and enjoyable. They sorted out a few wrinkles in my mind about my cohort of students so I'm much happier. Then I spent a lovely couple of hours with my friends on the way home.

The blooming tree isn't up yet. It needs some lower branches removed before it'll sit in the bucket so that'll be sorted today hopefully as it's blocking the stairs still. Actually it's a nice one as the needles aren't sharp, last year the tree was painful to touch. As it's just cut down on the estate I don't know what type it is, didn't even order it. I've managed to avoid having a tree for most of my adult life until I moved here as trees just 'appear' in my hall.

I posted off a couple of parcels yesterday too. A beautiful little glass penguin tree decoration for a friend who loves penguins. I'm not sure how penguins fit into the Christmas narrative but my friend will be thrilled. :rotfl:

Today I'll be sorting out the tree and the utility room! I had hoped to sleep later but I've had my eight hours so I suppose any extra is just greedy.

    Happy Tuesday everyone.

Scampi had one of his grumpy days yesterday, he wanted to be near me but not be touched and seemed irritated if I spoke to him. So I wasn't looking forward to last night, he had to go to the vet for his booster. The waiting room was empty – yay! - but he snarled at the vet then shouted at a dog in reception that dared to arrive while we were paying. We went to Pets At Home where he peed – like a girl! - then a couple of minutes later, pooed. The SA just laughed and said she was ready for this and came over with a huge roll of tissue and some spray. I took it off her to clean up and she was surprised – do people really leave it for the staff to clean up?! Scampi was almost panicky on the drive home then seemed like a different dog when he walked through the door, he was so relaxed. I don't know who was more relieved to be home, him or me :D

I've put more decorations up and have managed to put the lights on the tree. With a bit of luck, I may actually get it finished today. But I doubt it, lol. I'm feeling brave enough to start taking Scampi out again, but it's pouring with rain at the moment so we'll see. The shopping is being delivered this morning, by the time I've put it all away it'll be lunchtime. This afternoon – baubles and tinsel :D

tru - Scampi was just showing you what he thought of the whole thing!
Good luck with the tree Gers, I haven't even thought of a tree yet, maybe if I had somewhere to put it I might! There is a small one growing in a pot outside that I got a few years ago, I may bring that in when the place is back to normal.
Enjoy the ceremony nmlc, well done to DS.
Worktops all cut and the undersides oiled, hopefully they will be fitted today. There didn't seem to be much progress with the kitchen yesterday but it was just that there wasn't much to see apart from worktops all over the place.

The weather is being quite kind at the moment, long may it continue.
    Take care. XX

Hugs to all those in need, thanks for the thread nmlc, thanks for the song Tru, I hope Scampi has a better day.
We're off to work in a sec, I think I overdid it at t he weekend as I wasn't well yesterday.
Still I managed to get to the sorting office just after 6:30 to collect a parcel and then on to work were I managed to stick it out until home time, then fell asleep on the sofa for a couple of hours.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Morning all, I am up and will soon get ready for work. Was in two minds about work but feel a bit better every day. Also we have a draconian sickness policy.

I have a couple of outside appointments, other than that just office based. Later in the week, we are going out for a meal. I have paid half in advance as a deposit but will see how I feel, the past two nights I have fallen asleep long before bedtime and the way I feel, am perfectly capable of sleeping through dinner.

Other than that, nothing much to report, other than making a rather nice lemon drizzle cake yesterday. And then making too much pasta for dinner. I gave my son too much and should have kept a portion back, as it was I had to bin a bit, which is not very OS.

I must mobilise my ancient self. Longing for the break now.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Morning folks. Not looked out of the window so don't know what it's doing out there. It's a gloomy forecast.

Well yesterday I was put in a complete panic. We went for Mr TA's pre-op assessment to find that he had been pencilled in provisionally for his op on the 14th - tomorrow!!! It would have been nice if someone had warned us! We have to be over there for 7.00 a.m. which we can just manage with a taxi from here to town, first train from our station, and a taxi from Leeds station to St James!! He will have a general and has to stay in overnight. I am now back to my usual churned up state. I have forgotten what life without ops/treatment/medical appts is like and after nigh on 4 years of it ruling our life I should be used to it but I'm not. (But hey it's better than the alternative!!)

I have my blood test this morning to see if the haywire results have settled since changing the bp medication. I hope the clinic is quiet I haven't time to sit there half the morning. One or two bits to pick up in town as I pass through but will try and avoid the hordes if I can.

I haven't given a thought to today's eats but I might suggest a late lunch out (It's steak day in 'Spoons!) Otherwise there's plenty to drag out of the freezer.

Have a good day all and (((HUGS))) to all in need or want. Take care xx

Morning, thanks for the thread nmlc and enjoy the graduation later. Well done to your DS x

Tough day at work yesterday - not the work itself, just lots going on in my head and waves of tears throughout the day, even as I was falling asleep :( Will try to take a day off next week to visit sis and take presents for the children (we don't buy for her or BIL).

Dinner will be SW sweet chilli chicken - DS2's turn to cook - he looked thrilled when I just mentioned it (not).

tru - thanks for the daily tune and poor Scampi to have a nasty needle xx it's for the best though xx

Hugs to all the poorlies and those with poorly loved ones.
    Take care all

  • Morning chums well cold has turned into a real doozy coughing, spluttering and eyes and nose competing with each other to see who runs the fastest. Think I will give tonight's quiz a miss, and probably tomorrows U3A party a swerve as well.
I'm glad I have got all the Christmas presents and crads done out of the way as I really wouldn't fancy going around shops at the moment My DGS Ben is home from Uni on Thursday as its his 21st birthday on friday so i am hoping to feel better by then.
Hope Caterina gets her trains etc OK what with imminent strikes.
<<hugs to all poorlies and folk who aren't feeling their best this week

Right off to get another hot drink, not really eating much as I just haven't got the appetite at all,but lots of fluids at least

    Cheers chums

    Morning everyone,

Gosh it's dark this morning, still a week until the solstice so we are really in the dead of winter.

We did pick up a tree yesterday, a very small real one, lovely blue spruce :) we thought we would decorate it tomorrow when DM is hopefully with us. Today I will spend all day at DB's, a couple of Mum's friends are coming over to see her, depending on how she then feels plan to bring her back with me but we will see.

Wishing Scampi a better day TRU and thanks for the song.
Hope you feel better soon Jackie likewise anyone else feeling poorly.
Gentle hugs to Coxy and all others who have worries & cares x

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning all,

First day off today :D:j weather is gloomy and damp but not too bad. I have a dentist appointment this morning only for a checkup but I know I need at least one filling so I hope she does it today and gets it out the way.

DD and I are off shopping this afternoon and having lunch out, I have finished my shopping but she needs a few bits, also OH has given me his bank card and told me to buy something from him for xmas :D I normally make him buy his own presents but at least this way I get to choose, there is and UGG outlet where we are going so I might have a look in there !

I have a load of washing in the TD and I will clean the kitchen before we go but the rest can wait, Im going to enjoy my day off !

My BIL caught my cold and was very poorly indeed during the night on Sunday and almost collapsed my sis took him to A & E yesterday and he has pneumonia  so be careful all with colds and look after yourselves.
