I heartily recommend switching to frozen peas, you can flash cook them if you like, I generally leave them to melt a little and pour a hot kettle over them, let them sit in the hit water briefly, and OMG they're adorable. Knob of butter if you like, but really no need :)

Morrisons frozen mushy peas are good, and as yet, mint free.
  • I don't think Farrows Marrowfat peas have mint in them.

    would've . . . could've . . . should've . . .

Yep they do, last ingredient after e numbers, got a tin in larder.
  • Don't care if they have mint in them or not as we grow our own mint anyway
I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.

However I have bad memories of mother soaking peas in water with a weird little net thing, so I'd be wary ..

I don't remember the net thingy but do recall a tablet that went into the soaking dried peas.

I remember (about 40+ years ago) a 'fast food' caravan that did hot dogs, burgers (those Westler ones) & dishes of mushy peas, they always had a dish if mint sauce to add. Also, the market in Nottingham did the same, don't know if they still do.

It would have been a bicarbonate of soda tablet.
I think that it helps speed up the water absorption of the peas.

The reason for the mint flavouring is to disguise the fact that those are the cheapest peas they can find, and they don't have any taste otherwise.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Try making petit pois a la francaise - much nicer than tinned green goop.

Oh yes, perhaps I do remember a tablet, not sure where I'm
    Getting the net from.
