Uno Broadband migration/change address costs

Hello,
I've recently moved address and as I am very happy with Uno broadband I want to take them with me.
However they have said that my service (Fibre 100+) cannot be migrated, and I must cease the old service and put in an order for the new service. My current service has been paid up until 22nd December.
The total cost for all this is:
Phone line restart - £9
Fibre activation - £54
Cease fee - £32
Notice period - £16.44
Add on the costs for both the upfront 1 month line and broadband costs this is going to cost a total of £164!
I'm thinking it would be far cheaper to go with a new provider and I'm surprised they won't migrate me for free, I've been with them for many years now.
What are peoples opinion on this?
Thanks,
Jamie

Some company's allow you to cancel your service at your old address penalty free, if you agree to a new minimum term with that company at your new address, but those company's don't have to do this, they consider it good business as they keep the customer and have them tied to a new minimum term ,
If your ISP does not want to offer this, there isn't a lot you can do about it, after all it's you that's changing the status of the current arrangement by moving
If you are outside of any minimum term at your old address, then there shouldn't be any early termination fees, but your company may still charge cease fees etc , and install fees at your new address if you continue to us them
You may be able to save some money using another provider at your new address, I would suggest enquiring with others ISP's and decide if it is possible to save some money, is it's worth it to you changing provider , it's subjective, one person may jump at a £5/month saving, someone else may think it's not worth the potential hassle0 -
Uno are a proper ISP. Going back to the bargain bucket end of the market might be a shock.
Cease fee is standard if a new service isn't starting on the old line when yours is switched off, it's charged at wholesale level. Fibre activation is standard but many of the ISPs with long contracts amortize it into the monthly fee so you don't pay it directly as a single payment on your bill with the providers that advertise on the telly.
I can't find the Fibre 100+ product on the uno site at first look, so don't know what this offers. Their products seem based on 40Mbps or 80Mbps services, so not sure that the "100" would be. If it's a service based on TT backhaul and TT isn't available where you are now, then those come with 12 month terms (the ISP I use also offers a TT backhaul based service with the same minimum term) and from what I recall, this seems to commit the ISP to 12 months with the wholesale provider on your line as much as you to the ISP, hence them not releasing you from the contract early. So I'd say the charges are about right.
It's the (literal) price you pay for using a good ISP. You will be able to get cheaper, if that's what you want.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
Thank you both for your replies. Yes I was comparing the cost only to the other mainstream providers, who are far inferior. The high cost took me by surprised that's all, especially around this expensive time of year!
Decided to stay with Uno as their service is impeccable.

I was with Uno broadband - when our village was upgaded to fibre I was suprised how expensive Uno were especially as they didn't have a combined fibre and phone package (July 2016). They wanted over £35pm plus migration fee and router. In the end I went with SSE for £22pm (for 70Mbs) incl line rental, anytime phone calls, free connection and router. I had a a hiccup at the beginning where the connection didn't happen so they had to reorder ( sent me another router and knocked off the first month's payment). So far I've been very happy, no interruptions, no evident throttling (probably because this village hasn't woken up to fibre yet ) and 65Mbs+ connection speed compared to the 2Mbs before and under half the price if you take into account the fixed costs. And a spare router:)0
