It's the sectarianized system (as indicated by eamon McCann), which rewards tribal voting patterns.
A need for a large majority such as 80% in any decisions would cancel out the need to have a majority in both groupings, as is required now, and would also prevent decisions based on affiliation.
Cyprus and Lebanon had similar systems to ours, look how well they turned out. (Not well)

We can only hope that the electorate waken up to reality and dump the corrupt lying bigoted stuck in the past DUP. It pains me to say it from my background, but I think Sinn Fein would do a better job of running the country. A pity Mike Nesbitt is so weak - Alliance - not sure! SDLP - ditto.
