If you have an apron day and time he purchased, insist they go through their records.
And what does he do when they say no? Say pretty please.

    Insist?
They can ask politely if one of the Argos employees would be able to check their records but as they are not obligated to do this, insisting will not have any effect.
Anyway, even if they find the date and time that a controller was sold, there still won't be any evidence that this was the one purchased by the OP's son.
  • Buy a new one and take the faulty one back in the new packaging with new receipt to a different Argos store. Sounds like it was just this certain employee being awkward.
    Make £10 per day-
    June: £100/£300
  • Go to a different Argos store. Buy a new one. Take it out of the box and use it. Put the faulty unit in the box and return for a refund the following day with the receipt. You're happy, Argos are happy, everyone wins.

I don't think Argos will be "happy" with a fraudulent return.

I wouldn't have thought they'd care, plus how is it fraudulent. Out of two purchases Argos have sold a faulty item and they are getting that item back. What would be more fraudulent is if Argos then go on and try and sell that faulty item again as new. God forbid they would do that sort of thing ;)

Did they not take his email? Arent argos one of those who send out e receipts?
  • A few years back oldest son got an X-box for Christmas, some 3 month later it was showing red eye of death ( son knows what it means I don't )

Took it back to argos with receipt they refused to deal with it and insisted we contacted X-box manufactors, they gave us the phone no.

Picked up by Fedex and a week later Fedex delivered a brand new X-box whith higher spec. than original.
  • Argos customer service is terrible. I bought a wheeled hold-all and on its first use the wheels buckled causing the fabric to pull along the ground and tear. I took it back with the receipt and Argos refused to refund it as they said I caused the damage, phoned head office and they wouldn't override the stores decision. Will never buy from Argos again.

Returning one item with the receipt for another is bonafide?

And I can list plenty of occasions where I've returned stuff (faulty or otherwise) to my local Argos without any bother whatsoever.
