Mattresses and sleeping comfort is very individual, especially if you have orthopedic problems (back, hips, etc.) What works for one person won't work for another, so it's difficult to say that mattress X is best.

As for Ikea, despite the low prices of their mattresses, I have read almost exclusively positive things about them - and conversely, some very poor reviews of much more expensive mattresses. I have several friends who have bought them and all have been very happy.

Maybe subscribe to Which? magazine and read their mattress reviews. You spend one third of your life lying on a mattress, so worth the investment.

  • Fakespot assesses if those stellar reviews are fake or not. Highly recommended. It has a chrome plug in too - so you can check as you browse amazon, and run the fakespot for any product not already assessed.

Local bed specialist who has a good reputation, as well as an interest in maintaining that.

Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)
  • Take out a trial 1 month £1 subscription to Which? magazine. Some very expensive mattresses score quite low. One Ikea mattress scores very high.
    Nice to save.

I have an Ikea mattress and love it. Which? review mattresses, currently they list Morgedal (£165 for a single) and Hövåg (£180 for a single) as best buys.

The highest rating on their site is currently for "The Emma Original", but it's only 8% higher than the Ikea ones and costs £650 - personally I wouldn't pay the extra.

Current price for Hovag is £125 for single (£190 for double) and also £125 for a Morgedal in single (£165 for double).

how about here .. at Costco

OK you may have to join Costco if you don't know somebody else who shops there.

We actually got our mattress there and it has been great.

It came rolled up and when opened it took a couple of hours to flat perfectly flat but it's great

90% if all mattress are made in a small Yorkshire town of Batley. If you look online you'll see alot of the sellers are from that area. They only cost around £100. Most of them even supply the high street manufacturers
