OP have you tried another network's SIM at all?

As pointed out above CPW lock their iPhones to the first SIM inserted however GiffGaff sell phones unlocked to any network so you *may* find that's still the case?
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

That's just going to confuse, the OP didn't buy from Giffgaff so what does it matter that Giffgaff sell unlocked phones?

The locking policy is set by CPW...

Also, the phone won't have locked to giffgaff, as they have no locking policy, it will be locked to o2, the parent network.

    Hi

My husband has an Iphone. He bought the phone outright (ie no monthly contract) at Carphone Warehouse and he uses the phone with a giffgaff paymonthly sim.

My husband seems to think that his phone is locked to giffgaff. Is this correct?

If it is correct, can we get the phone unlocked?

As I uderstand it locking to the network of the first SIM inserted only affects iPhone 5 and previous but don't quote me on that. If a phone is locked to a network then it's the network you go to get it unlocked. Otherwise use an unlocking service.

The best way to check if it's locked or unlocked is to get a different network SIM card. Lots of free PAYG SIMs available.

Did you read the previous posts in this thread? It's actually been stated by a few people what the actual facts are.

All iPhones sold by CPW will lock to the first sim, this has happened since they started selling "sim free" iPhones and is true of any and every model sold.

There are NO codes to unlock an iPhone, they are unlocked via an Apple database that pushes the unlock to the handset so I'm not really sure why you've wasted time in linking to a codes type website which often take people's money without ever actually unlocking the device.

The handset will be locked to o2 and the OP needs to get an o2 sim and then activate it in the iPhone and then request the unlock through o2. It will cost £15.

They could use one of the eBay unlocker who have somehow managed to arrange to get o2 unlocking requests sent to Apple, they charge a similar amount to o2 (except for the new 7 and 7 Plus which will be more), but the OP won't need an active o2 sim if they use an eBay o2 unlocker.

Here's an example (who I have personally used a number of times in the past) of an unlock for anything up to the 6s Plus, for 15.99

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/O2-TESCO-UK-IPHONE-6-6-PLUS-OFFICIAL-FACTORY-UNLOCK-CLEAN-IMEI-ONLY-/131542230095

    iPhone 7 for 24.49

Cheapest method is currently direct with o2 at £15.

CPW do make the point about it locking on every webpage for the iPhone on their site.
Yes, but buried in small print. This is very sharp practice.

If you go back over my posting history about this you'll see I've been less than complimentary about this sharp practice by CPW and I wouldn't buy one from them, even if they were cheaper than the other retailers.

But in their defence it isn't really in that small a print anymore, it's actually in bold above the other (not bold) terms now.

The OP also confirmed that her husband was also verbally informed it would happen at point of sale.

Er ... did you miss this on the page I linked to:
Important: The unlock codes on this page will not get your iPhone unlocked for free. There is no such thing as being able to unlock iPhone free, free pin code or free mobile unlock codes. Any website that says they will provide you with a free iPhone unlock or free unlock code is probably a scam.
That page is primarily a means of searching for a phone unlock service.

I've read the Opening Post in this thread and I replied to that. It appears that you have not done that but instead hijacked this thread! You've done this in other threads and even went on about Carphone Warehouse in a thread in which it was not even mentioned in the OP!

Here's the Opening Post quoted in case you are unable to scroll back and/or you are unable to read it and/or you are unable to understand it or indeed incapable of understanding it.

My advice is the same as before: To find out if it's locked get a different network SIM. PAYG SIMs can be had for free.

Here's what Carphone Warehouse says about it.
How can I find out if my device is locked to a network?
To find out if your device is locked, borrow a SIM card from a friend on a different network to you. Put the SIM in your device and try to make a call - if you can, your device is unlocked.
