when should i change my car

just after advice on my ford focus 2007 tdci. i really like the car and have owned it about 7 years. the car is in good condition and serviced every year.

the mileage is now 80,000 and i have read on the internet that it will soon need a clutch and DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel) . also the tyres will soon need replacing.

i do have money to change the car if necessary but i do like this car.

would it be better to keep this car for another 2 years and pay the above costs or just change the car now?

If and when needs the car needs work carrying out on it that you don't think is worth the expense, that is the time for a newer motor.

My thoughts too, plus op you might just end up buying into a previous owners problems if you get another vehicle.

With your car, you know what you've got and know how it has been looked after.
It might need a clutch and DMF soon, it might not. They mention the both of them as there would be no point not doing the clutch if the DMF failed and vice versa.

I'd get the tyres just now, and worry about the DMF/clutch if they actually fail.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet. What makes you think it needs new DMF and clutch? Add 100k onto the mileage and you might be closer

Clutches and DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel) are wear and tear items and they will probably need replacing at some point but its all down to how they are used. They could last for months or years to come - the clutch will probably fail first but that should fail gradually and give you time to book in.

Definately, mine started to slip at about 165k, you most probably have years left in it.

Keep it, service it and keep your money in the bank......

It will probably need that some time. But unless you have symptoms now, that could be years away.

Change your car by all means (its your money!) but its almost certainly cheaper to keep the one you have.

Thank you everyone. i will definitely keep this car. I am happy with it and it is good clean condition. I am surprised and happy to hear the DMF and possibly clutch will last much longer than i thought

And remember, even if the clutch/DMf packs up tomorrow, it's still a no-brainer to keep the car you've got
