Problems streaming Amazon videos - have Prime account

I have had some connectivity issues recently with my notebook PC which I use to stream content ( movies TV shows etc) from my Prime account. (I reset unknown content flags as instructed by Amazonand then when I tried to watch as instructed, got error message saying? unknown address - although I clicked on the link supplied. by Amazon...)
So I thought I would try to watch via my android tablet. This redirects me to a screen which displays instructions on how to download Amazon Apps. Will not let me watch any other way. (generated a 7301 error.)
So I downloaded the Amazon app and checked unknown content flag as Amazon instructs you, then wenr to install. Apart from giving them access to everything on your device (friends lists, photos etc) my OS is warning me that installing the app means it can generate SMSs which could cost me money.
Anyone else out there watching Amazon Prime via a PC or tablet. Are there issues? It used to work. I am thinking content suppliers have all put so much effort into stopping illegal streaming via special checks and permissions, it is be coming impossible to give legal access to genuine e subscribers.
