Evans Halshaw Mis-Sold Guarantee

Bought a 2013 plate Renault Scenic form Evans Halshaw Vauxhall Horsforth. Was told my cars warranty had run out (Not True) and was sold a two year mechanical and breakdown Guarantee. Only when my car broke down and was taken to a Renault dealership for repairs did I find out my car was still covered under Renault's standard four year warranty and the policy I had been sold was not required. I have asked the Horsforth garage for a full refund for the Guarantee, they offered a one year refund. Now having to go down the legal route although they assure me there isn't one. Do not buy a Evans Halshaw Guarantee until you are sure your car is not already covered as they have no idea if it is or not and they tell me its not their responsibility to find out. All Renault's have had a full four year warranty and breakdown cover in place since 2012 and this should have been passed on to me on the sale of the car. I am sure all salesmen should be aware of this when selling a car, and not selling Guarantee products that are not required.
Anyone else reading this that has had the same done to them please contact trading standards asap.

Why didn't you do carry out your own due diligence instead of believing the word of a salesman (who are notorious for lying to get a sale)?

I idly find myself wondering if the original warranty was voided pre-purchase for some reason - probably a missed service - but the dealer either haven't noticed, or have simply honoured it for goodwill.

I agree a quick google or call to a dealer would have shown what the Renault warranty is, but telling an outright lie to sell something is hardly right and should (would?) mean a contract made on this basis can't be enforced?

If the dealer won't help, try a complaint with Pendragon head office
  • Hi people.
Right so I've just got my car in for its first service since I've had the vehicle (just less than a year) and there's quite a lot of things that need doing other than the service. Just a day before its service I had smoke coming from the injectors and was told it's the receivers or maybe the housing. Basically it's !!!!ing out diesel onto the block of the engine. (Causing smoke to bellow out from the bonnet). I had it recovered for free to my main dealer Evans halshaw as breakdown was in the warranty. But my concern is what will the warranty cover? I've been told exhaust brackets are corroded and exhaust is falling off, rear number plate light doesn't work, all 4 tyres need replacing, abs sensor is on, all brake pads need replacing, passenger headlight is misting up, and that's not before we get to the engine.. 2 injectors are needing replacing cam belt and aux belt are due to be changed. Literally !!!! my life there's a couple more things but can't think.. is it worth just shooting myself now? Or is there a way it's not going to brake my bank and life

Try spreading the cost, by for example replacing tyres and exhaust when you notice they're worn out or falling off on the weekly checks you do.

    I've been Money Tipped!
A warranty won't cover the brake pads, light bulbs, exhaust, cam belt or tyres (amongst other things). All of these things are standard 'wear and tear' of owning and running a car and should have been noticed and addressed as soon as they occurred.

I've been told exhaust brackets are corroded and exhaust is falling off - WEAR AND TEAR.

Rear number plate light doesn't work - WEAR AND TEAR.

4 tyres need replacing - WEAR AND TEAR.

Abs sensor is on - MAYBE WARRANTY

All brake pads need replacing - WEAR AND TEAR

Passenger headlight is misting up - MAYBE WARRANTY

Cam belt and aux belt are due to be changed - GENERAL SERVICING

All cars need maintenance whether you like it or not. A warranty isn't going to cover the consumables.

On a four year old car? Sounds more like scam to me.
Passenger headlight is misting up - MAYBE WARRANTY

Stone chip's entirely possible, too, or a seal mis-placed after a bulb change.
