  • Thats cool i have just signed up too do my first full marathon in April in Blackpool. I did a half marathon a couple of years ago nothing exciting just the great north run. I am a 3 days a week going running i tend too do a short a mid then a long run my max so far is about a 14.

I have just spent a fortune over the weekend on new running gear ie new shoes i have weird feet apparently. lol

re running groups one is local too me but its tricky as i work nights 4 nights a week and my shift pattern is sunday-wednesday so i am knackered unless i can find a club that runs on either a friday night or weekends.

That's so exciting! Blackpool is on the 23rd? That's the same as my first marathon. I loved GNR. It's such a good atmosphere, with all the spectators and bands en route. It's so amazing when they play Local Hero. Such a buzz!

Footwear is a nightmare, it's so easy to make a costly mistake. I found a model of Asics that I love and just buy last seasons colours now. I can easily rack up 50 miles a week so I go through them quickly.

I lead a Sunday LSR group but it's not a popular session, people don't want to commit to it. I only do it as it fits in with my own training.
  • So I collected by eldest from uni yesterday. Treated him to a Nando's. I use my old NHS ID card to get a 20% discount. I haven't worked for the NHS in 3-4 years :o

I used my husband's car to get there, it's far better on fuel than my car but I did use the M6 toll both ways. I wasn't planning to but there was traffic on the M6 in both directions so I did it.

I got paid today so moved £800 to my debt and savings account. So pleased. This extra contract is great! I'm only paying off the minimum at the moment because I want the cash available for eldest's accommodation deposit which will be sometime in January.

I've also added a bit more to our everyday budget for the month. I didn't account for the extra adult to feed. He's been here for 24 hours and eaten everything :rotfl:

we had a good chat about his finances, he is doing so well. He had a nice little bank balance still there. No overdraft and he has over half of his part of his accommodation saved already. :T:T:T

Well i was the same as you i was using asics i have done for years i used there gt 1000's for about the last 3 pairs but the last pair i bought kinda crippled me when i ramped up the distance. I was constantly blistering on one foot in the arches, hence the new shoes/gait analysis. I am now using

    http://www.northernrunner.com/shoes-c133/cushioning-running-shoes-c192/inov8-roadclaw-275-red-black-mens-p3436

And these guys did the analysis and it turns out i am wearing shoes too small and i need shoes in wide fit not normal fit.

It is yes re black pool, i am going too make a weekend of it as i don't work Fridays or Saturdays and i like the look of the Hilton they have in Blackpool. Swimming pool/sauna/steam room the day before the run sounds good. I am the same as you i think last month i ran 140miles, this month i will smash that as i have a lot of free time over xmas.

A lazy day, pre race sounds like an excellent plan. Have they ramped the cost of the rooms up much? My hotel for the LondonMarathon is horrendous but I have found a decent priced one for GNR.

Yesterday was fine money wise. £14 spent on food. More than usual as I will have to spend more but I have eldest doing his best impression of a swarm of locusts.

Last night both boys had school events. Youngest had the annual primary school Carol concert, he was meant to be doing a guitar solo and a reading. His guitar solo got cancelled and he was asked to join a group guitar performance. He was a little disappointed:( he was dropped due to time. He's been playing guitar longer than the others so is more able. I think he felt like he wasn't doing the best he could as it was a much more simple song that he had to play. Apparently he did he reading very well. I missed this though as eldest had to return to his old school for a certificate and awards evening for those who left last summer.

The invitation was for the pupils and a parent. I was one of only a few parents. I sat with eldest and his friends. It's lovely to see them all, they've all grown up so much. They invited me to the pub afterwards. I didn't go, I was getting the look from eldest! One of his friends is at Cambridge uni and got 3 A*s in A levels, he won 3 awards last night. Eldest didn't expect to win anything as he took the same subjects as him. However he did win the Futher Maths award. It was based on his attitude, improvement and achievement in his subject. I think he was far more pleased than he let on:T

I was meant to go to Birmingham for a works lunch yesterday but I didn't, made an excuse instead. I saved money on the meal and petrol. Feeling pleased about that.

I don't think I'll do much other than work and crochet today. I'm thinking about reopening my Folksy shop but I need some stock first. I enjoy crochet and sewing but I have so,little time!

Well for 3 nights b and b in the Hilton it's 335. I don't mind paying it as it's a one off and I know
It won't be a flea pit. I once stayed in the travel lodge in Blackpool I don't know if it's still there the
one by Blackpool footy ground and the hotel shook as it was windy and the hotel was badly built you could feel the wind coming through the walls and edges of the windows.

  • Isn't it always windy in Blackpool? ;)

Cheeseface do give my lovely Red Arrows boys a wave as they display overhead at the GNR won't you! It's a display/flypast I'd like to get to but it always clashes with other committments.
