Ive lived here for five years and I still have so much I want to do. The plumber came yesterday to fix the broken toilet, but I'd like a new bathroom really.Hello! I feel like we might be in quite a similar boat - I would love to get cracking on my house improvements (I bought the house in September '15 and am yet to finish decorating a single room! Plus I want a shower room installing on the first floor!) and it really is my debt payments that stop me paying for this - I know I could get another loan (Barclays keep trying to give me one!!) but why would I want to get in more debt when I'd feel better paying off what I owe and then paying cash as far as possible for the improvements?
But it's hard work - so it's really nice to read other diaries and see other people in a similar boat and steal tips and hints from them!!

Re your quote above - that's exactly what happened to me! Good job, low outgoings, no dependant children and I still managed to rack up £33,000 debt at its highest! I kept bouncing from one 0% balance card to the next until I couldn't get any more! Then I had to knuckle down and sort things out!
Good luck on your journey! As others have said, you have thought out your plan very well.
It's so easy to do and I think living in a world with so much virtual money with cards and Apple Pay etc makes it easier to over spend.
Yesterday I paid my tax bill so that's one job from my list. I bought a new top for my Christmas parties too. I went into New Look and found the perfect top for £8 in the sale. So pleased that I left it until late. It's really versatile too, plain black cotton with a sparkly neckline, I'll be able to wear it at least four times in the next fortnight. Quite a classic look that won't date so I was very pleased. I also bought a scarf for £5.
I drove to my running club party last night so didn't buy any drinks, that was a free night. :T. I had a great night catching up with everyone. Everyone looked so glamorous. We only usually go out in running clothes and are hot and sweaty:rotfl:Definitely a pleasant change!
But the best news from yesterday is that our raffle was a great success and we raised over £500 for our charities. I am very close to my £2000 target and I still have over 4 months of fundraising left.:j:j:j:j:j:j:j
Have a great weekend :beer:0 -
Great news on the fundraising - that's brilliant! :T
Oh, and if it makes you feel any better it took us 13 years to get to the stage of having our bathroom redone - and by golly it needed it by that stage!

Thank you! The raffle was such easy fundraising. I just visited local shops and restaurants and emailed other national companies, peoples were really generous in their gifts. It's easy to get people to buy tickets when you have good prizes.0

Middle distance really, I suppose. I am quite a slow runner so don't like 5 or 10km races. I prefer a slower pace. I've run in 4 half marathons so far. Next year's London Marathon will be my only Marathon just because of the training schedule really. It's a huge commitment. I've been running for 18 months so it's taken a while to get to the stage where I know what I like. I am also a run leader so have my groups 3days a week.littleskintdragon wrote: »Just read your thread. Im a runner too, it keeps me sane! Who is your insurance policy with? It's Vitality Fitness rewards program. My husband works with financial advisers and he says they all recommend it just for the benefits! You get half price trainers and discounted Garmin GPS watches too.
I'd really recommend a beginners running group if you find one local to you. They'll help to pace you, it's safer and more social. The Run Together website has a database of all groups. My new group starts on January 3rd, capitalising on the New Year resolution makers!Seasidegal58 wrote: »Yes well done on the fund raising!

I realised it was the anniversary of my life insurance plan last week so I called today to find out that my premium has gone up by just 50p per month from last year (phew) but that I get £100 cash back as a reward, which becomes payable in February. It's great insurance plan because it rewards you for a healthy lifestyle. Most insurance feels like dead money but I earn points for things like steps, running, volunteering at Parkrun and having health checks. They soon mount up when you're a runner.
Last year I got to the highest points level, hence £100 cash back. But the best thing is I also get a free Starbucks drink and a cinema ticket for me and my youngest each week. We are going to see Rogue One at the weekend. The one cinema trip alone covers the cost of my policy each month. :j:j it does mean that I don't begrudge going to watch something I don't want to with the youngest, or I can take a chance on something I'm unsure about.
Hi Cheeseface,
this sounds really good - I'm looking for life insurance and these perks would definitely motivate me and appeal - would you mind DM'ing me which company you're with? If you have a referral link I'd be happy to use that.
Best wishes,
Blue0 -
Bluebird, I don't have a referral code, but it's the Vitality Fitness Rewards scheme.
Today will be a spend day. I'm going to collect my eldest from uni for Christmas. :j I'm so excited to have him home. Petrol and lunch, possibly the M6 toll road too. Doesn't matter though. It will be worth every penny.0 -

Thats cool i have just signed up too do my first full marathon in April in Blackpool. I did a half marathon a couple of years ago nothing exciting just the great north run. I am a 3 days a week going running i tend too do a short a mid then a long run my max so far is about a 14.
I have just spent a fortune over the weekend on new running gear ie new shoes i have weird feet apparently. lol
re running groups one is local too me but its tricky as i work nights 4 nights a week and my shift pattern is sunday-wednesday so i am knackered unless i can find a club that runs on either a friday night or weekends.Cashback Earnings YTD £46.04 Survey Earnings YTD £182.66
