  • Lovely fabrics Kittie, by the way thanks for the link above about fitting necklines to knits - really useful and I've bookmarked that. I wear a lot of t-shirts all year round and one of my aims is to be able to make my own, I'm fed up with the poor quality of most of the ones on sale.

Paid work and a migraine at the weekend have held up my sewing, I've got a friend visiting tonight so I'm going to ask her to help pin up my muslin. Next week is quieter so I hope to get on, although not as prolifically as Kittie - you're an inspiration!

I bought 2 yards of bemberg lining via ebay 9 days ago. A beautiful silver grey with small black dots and it came from Thailand this morning. The quality far exceeds what I was expecting, it has the feel of a best quality silk. I did read about the problems sewing thia fabric so with trepidation I set to and made two petticoats and how nice they are. I heard that it was best to use a silk finish cotton thread and luckily I had some from mettler. I also used a new 70 needle and a walking foot but think tacking would work too. It frays easily so I didn`t want to mess with it. It is 48" from selvedge to selvedge and all I did was sew the 2 sides together, hemmed top and bottom and put a 5mm length of elastic through. The petticoats are very nice, I made one 3" longer than the other and there is enough left for a mini but I am saving that in my stash, in a zip lock. If I ever need to use lining then I will be getting bemberg, it is a cotton but with a special finish that makes it feel like shiny silk

One skirt cut out and will be cutting a nightie later and am going to start a `go to` box with patterns that I love enough to repeat several times. Had a friend from the village here today and I have started noticing how clothes fit on people, so many wear tops that have drag lines or that flatten the boobies. I am not being critical, just noticing

Haha! Yes Kittie, I found myself unfavourably examining the fit of the white dress with black piping that hrh Duchess of Cambridbge was wearing.
Too pointy at the bust darts!
No need for an fba there but something wasn't right.

Thank you for the links kittie I really like the tunic and the Vogue dress. Sadly I don't have the legs for that length of dress! But I didn't know about the CustomFit patterns, and will enjoy a good browse on the website :)

arty, I read that darts too close to the BP cause that pointyness, they should be further away. Hehe, anyone remember the day when extreme pointyness was the height of fashion?

Ivyleaf I don`t have good legs but have decided to be comfortable with myself and in my own skin, hence me making dresses. I haven`t worn dresses for a very long time

That dress called tiramisu by cake patterns, I have the pattern, bought it at least a couple of years ago but never realised what a high rating reviewers gave it, so now it is downstairs and I will make it, when I have cleared everything else on my list. It always looked too fitted and clingy on the pattern front but I was wrong

Yesterday I made two skirts, so quick to cut and make those A line elasticated waist ones. The fabric is quite a heavy linen with a dash of cotton, so they will do fine for autumn too. Now I have two tops and three skirts that mix and match completely, I am not stopping there as I have the pickle colour to make and the blue print one and then I will make a pickle maddison top. Everything matches perfectly so far and pickle is absolutely the colour in the blue print. All I have to do now is find a fine fabric that links all the colours and make a couple of thin scarves. My wardrobe is starting to look good and less of a mis-match of colours. Making the maddison top this time will be exciting as I did the FBA and also took 2/8" from the raglan tops at the shoulders. All of those plus a cardigan or two and warm tights and I have a compete wardrobe

Anything else after this will wait its turn and I will slow down into making more complicated things

Boring old curtains for me today. We moved into a house with none and although I just bought cheapo Ikea ones, they all need hemming and some need joining to make wider ones. Its totally grim.
Loving all your links kitty, the tiramisu dress is my kind of dress.
ivy leaf, easy to say and hard to do, but wear what makes you happy, don't worry about our legs.

urghh curtains flissh. I feel for you. Last set I handled were massive light blocking floor to ceiling from dunelm. I had to sew them together as I can only have one curtain in that bedroom. Then I had to hem it. It was ok for 6 years until I could stand it no longer and spent savings on a purpose made pretty light blocking curtain

I feel tired now, think it was the massive storm last night. Going to have a nap in a mo as I am good for nothing

  • Ugh - curtains!

Ivyleaf, my legs are definitely not my best feature, but I wear opaque tights and boots in winter with an above-the-knee skirt, I find it much more flattering to my figure than a longer length. I don't get the legs out in summer!

My sitting room curtains were a marathon that do not wish to repeat for a VERY long time! Our house is 1930's and has fairly high ceilings. My sitting room is long and is curtained floor to ceiling both ends. Unfortunately the only way I'm able to do this without horrendous expense is to buy 4 sets to make into 2 and buy a short set, same width to cut up and use to re-head them (it's a better way of lengthening as the seam doesn't show in the gathers of the header) added to the complexity I chose a modern stripe that had to be matched!!!
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Silvasava, why don't not you make your curtains from scratch instead of buying two sets of ready made?
Not "having a go" at you, I'm just curious as you can obviously sew!
