the vintagesheeting fabric came today and I was very pleasantly surprised. Quality is very good, like fabric used to be and is obviously mostly cotton with a hint of poly, so is pretty well uncrushable. All the colours in it are already in the bedroom curtains, linen pale cream colour with pinks, greens, blues etc. I am going to have quite a good amunt left over so will make a skirt for me and maybe a bag via the overlocker. The wadding for the bags came today and the zips came yesterday so I am good to go. I`ll be making several for christmas presents. Zips were very cheap from jaycotts and all the fabric will be left overs. I think I need 18 x 13 inches per bag, two pieces, outside and lining. Once I get on a roll then they are easy to churn out
I had a friend at college who used to make all her funky clothes from curtaining and sheeting, she always dressed fabulous0 -
I had to do something practical today after the awful events of last night and its raining too
Ironed the remnants I would be using for zipped bags, cut them out and also the iron on fleece. Eight 18 x 13 pieces for four bags. Used a rotary cutter, not familiar with it as I like scissors, I think it was sticking a bit or maybe blunt. I`ll have to look the instructions up. So that is the prep done and I`ll be able to use black threads on the overlocker, for all of them as they don`t show. They will be grand for christmas, I will put things in them, like the bath bombs in my stash of bath bombs or hair things etc0 -
I shall buy curtain material next week and make curtains for 4 windows and make 2 hanging quilts to fit in the side hatches.
I'm not having curtains in the kitchen as the curtains are too close to the cooker and they would be dangerous.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
oh curtains HuH. Last set I made was down to the floor and I had them laid flat on the floor while I cut. Never again, I made curtains for 34 odd years and hated each and every pair. Its the only sewing I ever turned down for a dd
I cannot find my weights, arghh looked everywhere but I did have many moments of madness when sorting after my husband died. I cannot believe I would have thrown them out but they are no-where. They were the ones with spikes and were about 20 years old. I either go mad thinking about it or I`ll make some, tomorrow. Pouches filled with grains and again from remnants0 -
Fortunately my windows are really small only 2 of them are 38 inches across and 2 are 25 inches across.
I once shortened a pair of curtains that were so big I had to spread them out on my lawn.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Do you ever go to sleep with a question in your head and then wake up having the answer? I did that last night and this morning went straight to my missing weights, at the bottom of a half empty bag. So now I don`t have to make weighted pouches but I think I will anyway because weights are always handy and I still have bits in my waste bin, so may as well use them. My rotary cutter blades will arrive today and I think a blunt blade was the problem. I can cut the pieces and just put them side by side to sew on the machine, will whizz and then the filling and last edges will be an easy sitting down job. Might as well, its raining so cannot go out0

I have finished the hm weights, made 14 and used 1700g of rice grains. Was thinking that as a young sower I would have loved these as a present in a small basket. Easy to make: strips 8 x 4 inches. Fold with r side inside. Sew 2 sides. I did as a strip and just snipped them apart, not forgetting the backstitches on each one. Put r side out fill with rice, put seam to the middle to make a pyramid. Pin and hand sew the remaining edge. Honestly was so easy and relaxing and am now all tidied away with lunch on the hob
No more sewing today, except I found another skirt pattern, 4 gore, so will check the sizing. A compromise between A line and 6 gore. Was in the basket with pinned weights. I might sort that pattern later, am all sewn out for now0 -
