Three Mobile - Texts not received

Hi

I am on a Three contract - I had this problem a few months ago and it seemed to fix itself but is happening again now. I am interested if anyone else has had the same issues.

If someone on O2 sends me a text message that is longer than one sms (160 characters) I don't receive it - if they send messages one text long I do receive it.

There is no problem with messages from other networks - i've tested with friends on vodafone and EE - it seems restricted to 02 to three texts (i've tried several friends on O2 and same applies)

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem and did you get it resolved?

I reported it to three previously and it was put down to me having recently porting my number across from vodafone when I took out my new contract, and as I said it did seem to clear after a week.

Any insights or suggestions appreciated.

You'd need the person on O2 to log it with their network support.
They need to track a message as it goes through their network and gets passed on to Three (where Three's network support can follow it to you).

These type or problems can be a nightmare to find! Or it might just solve itself, I've seen both happen...
  • Could it be that O2 convert the long SMS message into MMS messages? If these are blocked by either the system or the individual phone, they won't go anywhere.

It's been reported both ends - lets see what happens.

We already thought about the MMS issue - we conducted a test and as soon as the message is one character into the 2nd sms it doesn't seem to get delivered. It wasn't converted to an MMS.

I'm guessing that you can send long sms's to the O2 number?
So try sending a long one and then get the other person to reply to it (rather than starting a new one) with a long message. I've known that work.
  • I reported the issue to Three and raised a support query - they got back to me a week later - they had liaised with O2 and had found the issue - a piece of kit on the O2 side was playing up, O2 replaced this and all is well again.
