How to deal with Nan sending clothes to me
igstcbs
Hello, at the risk of sounding ungreatful (which I do not mean to do, I apprecitate gifts as much as the next person)
Around five years ago my Nan started to randomly send me parcels with clothes in them through the post, I live far from family so anything like that has to be done through the post and can't be dropped off at my home like some people who live close to family.
I will start off by saying I am a size 12-14. In this parcel was a few pairs of pajamas, size 20-22, a jumper which was size 22 and five bras which were a 40DD.
A few weeks later another one came with other various clothes, ranging in size from 20-22.
I spoke to my nan on the phone thanking her but telling her they would not fit me as they were not my size (she knows my size as we go shopping sometimes when I go home) I told her not to waste her money on the clothes and the postage as they do not fit me and that I have enough clothes to keep me going and am running out of places to keep what she is sending me. I said this is the nicest way I could without it coming out wrong.
Anyway, the parcels keep coming, still the same sizes. She is spending upwards of £6 for postage each time.
Today I recieved my Christmas parcel from my Grandparents and it is full of T-Shirts, which are size 20-22.
If I try to talk to her about it since our original conversation she just tells me I will either grow into them or to give them to my Husband to wear to keep him warm! (neon pink trousers are not his thing lol)
How do I deal with this?

Ask her not to send you any more. It isn't ungrateful, its honest.0

Does she realise what she is doing? My grandma used to give me things that were not my taste but I don't think she fully understood her actions so I just said thank you and put them away.
If she is your mum/dads mother could they speak to her?
I'm a similar size to you and I'd probably either wear the t-shirts as pyjamas if I could or give them to charity, no way would I save them to fit into! As I hope I never would.0 -
Ohhh I had that with my great-aunt! I'm a size 16, and she'd keep sending me things in a size 20-22 because "they are good quality and from expensive places".
That may be so...but they didn't fit and I couldn't really take them in haha! So off they went to the charity shop!
I spoke to my Mum who totally understood, and to my Nan who thought I was ungrateful and I should wear them anyway... *confused look*
Is your gran definitely compos mentis? My aunt was, which is why I wanted to say something. If she's not fully aware of her actions I'm not sure what you can do...

I have no advice, other than you can't put a price on the pleasure that your Nan will get in sending you the clothes, and thinking that she's helping you. You've spoken to her, and she's still doing it, so I don't think she's going to change.0

Get on a bus and visit her with a cake. Nip in to the bathroom and put the largest clothes on she's sent you, and ask her what she thinks!0

and keep doing this until she notices and stops or the clothes start to fit.:beer:Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0 -
Thank her sincerely, jokingly remind her that you're a size 12 and then charity shop them. It wouldn't hurt to keep an eye out for other examples of odd behaviour as, unfortunately, this can signal the onset of dementia. They are an EYESORES!!!!0

I presume they are unworn if so try selling them on gumtree or cheapcycle then buy something nice for you nan ( or give her the money if she wouldn't be offended). Are there any other family members who could speak to her?0

She's just wasting her money though. Your gran. It's all very well getting pleasure from sending presents but she's wasting time and money sending clothes that are way too big. I'd try and sell them on eBay or Gumtree.
The clothes aren't any use to you. She's wasting her money and you are getting presents that are absolutely no use to you.
It's a strange one. Plus many people like to choose their own clothes. 40DD bras?0 -
say thank you and charity shop them.2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000
