Excel parking - Stockport peel centre, incorrect REG entered

someone I do not know the name of made a bit of a daft mistake by entering the first half of their new car reg and the second half of their old car reg when buying their ticket
This was on a date in the last few moths. they have received the £60 now £100 later with pictures of entering/leaving notice via the post.
Fortunately they kept the ticket in their car and have it as proof, and the timings match up to say they were covered, at least under the incorrect ticket, for the time spent there.
I know companies like this like to rinse people with terms and conditions "oh it was wrong, you didnt have a valid ticket, pay up" so they have come here to see where they stand given their circumstances, they can prove ownership of the older car (so where they have "invented" the 2nd part of their reg from) and the first part on the ticket matches their vehicle.
Thank you in advance.

PPCs don't give a hoot about your circumstances and anything based in fact will nearly always fail.
Stick to the process and wording laid-out in the Newbies Sticky and yes, never tell them who was driving - always appeal as the Keeper.0 -
What do the signs say about "correct" registration. If it is not there, there is nothing they can do. You cannot be held liable for invisible terms. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

After googling the image of the car park's signs it does specify correct registration is required.
Surely the fine cannot be followed through purely on the basis of the ticket being different - they have proof they paid for their stay?
But that's what I came here to ask so suppose they'll have to pursue the standard line of protest.
Thank you0 -
Fine? What fine? It's a speculative invoice.0

And because it's Excel (IPC member) this will not go away after 'appeal' but go thru the motions and send the challenge in the NEWBIES thread for IPC members and you could add that it seems the VRN has come out wrongly on the attached ticket but the driver paid which is indisputable. As such, you have complained to the Peel Centre about this unfair charge.
The Peel Centre do sometimes cancel, search the forum for 'Excel Nicola Adam' to find the email address and to read about a few PCNs cancelled recently for miffed registered keepers (not drivers, remember).
Use the Christmas 'period of goodwill' in your favour to suggest your family is now never intending to return to the Peel Centre and the family (or just 'we') will shop elsewhere - but DO NOT say who was driving, don't write about what happened.
EDIT your posts now. Right now!
Excel read forums, or at the very least, we are aware that someone tells them about some threads.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

When u think about it, if I want to order a headlamp bulb for my vehicle, I can go on any supply website and it will usually ask me to put in my reg.no. Within a second it will tell me the make/model I own. So, if this 'technology' is available to motor factors then its certainly available to £million pound parking companies. You should be able to type the VRM in, screen says what vehicle it refers to, you agree by pressing the keyboard and Roberts your aunties husband !
But then again, this would remove quite a bit of revenue created by incorrect vrm's. Same as the companies that do not supply adhesive tickets, knowing that they will fall on the floor as soon as the driver closes the door.0 -
Great stuff thank you.
So to summarise they should fire off the template to excel - **adding their own text to advise the VRN appears to have come out incorrectly?** but also send a mail to the contacts at the peel centre? or should they contact the site owners if their initial attempts fail?
I found the thread thankyou, FYI these are
Mr. Adam Jolley. Assistant Retail Park Manager. Email: a.jolley@peel.co.uk
Ms. Nicola Dearden. Property Manager. Email: Ndearden@peel.co.uk
When you say don't describe what happened, you mean to Excel (obviously) but also the above two people?... what basis are they contacting the above two people for if not to say they are being treated unfairly due to the ticket error? Obviously with the template they are not going to mention the "mitigating factor" of the driver buying a ticket with the wrong reg.
Appreciate all the help0 -
Sorry to bump, all - I know its ignorant to assume mine should be seen sooner, but I need to reply this week if its still considered within the 14 days since issue
Should the person objecting not mention the reg issue to excel, but should mention it to the peel centre contacts?
So I send the template regarding keeper vs driver - then (at the same time roughly) send a mail to the peel centre which actually explains the situation? (whilst making it clear I am the keeper but not the driver) - or do I not explain the ticket/reg issue to either? and simply complain to peel about getting a ticket..?
Thank you0 -
Nothing you say to Excel is likely to make a jot of difference, telling them what happened about the 50:50 registration input is only likely to be seen by them as an admission of 'guilt' and further justification for them pursuing the charge.
The approach to the landowner is quite different where you are offering mitigating evidence, so they can be told about 'what happened', but do be careful about revealing any details about the driver, Peel and Excel are very content bedfellows. That said, we've seen some rather surprising interventions by Adam and Nicola on behalf of the motorist over the past few weeks, so try your hand with them. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

Ok, so I live in Stockport and frequently park at the peel centre. I know they will get me if I don't get a ticket, however, a couple of weeks ago I was meeting my brother and his family for a coffee. We parked next to each other, I went and bought my ticket and his partner bought there's. We remember getting them, I actually made a joke about her having to go back and check her reg. We have pictures of our kids in our phones on that day the 14th May outside Costa.
Anyway, I received a parking fine for the 14th. I absolutely know I bought a ticket and they witnessed it. We know the date well because it was the day we got back from holiday.
The interesting bit is........my brother called me earlier to say that he has also received a ticket for the same date and time.
I am pretty sure I have my ticket amongst the 1000s i keep. But what I want to know is how should we proceed? We kind of want to take it all the way to court so that it costs them more and the learn a lesson. I bet loads of people got fines on that day. Must have been an error with the machine. The only difference is that we know we got a ticket, and others may not be so sure.
Let me know your thoughts?
