How do you opt out of receiving *any* premium texts?

Apologies if this query has been raised before, but I'm new here.

My problem is that I bought my 11year old daughter a mobile for her birthday on the 02 network. I don't want to pay more than the £31.50 monthly charge. However, she's been receiving premium texts (from TfL), which is costing me more. I understand how I can stop this particular service. However, I want to stop her receiving *any* premium texts from *any* premium service provider -so I don't end up paying more than the £31.50 monthly bill.

O2 say they cannot implement a blanket ban from their side, and that I can only block individual services and only after thay have already started sending premium rate texts - but I may not be alerted to that until I get the monthly bill by which time she may have racked up quite a charge for me to pay.

Does anyone know of any way I can blanket ban all premium texts ahead of time?

Thanks so much

Pete

You'll need to block incoming messages from five-digit shortcodes. Those are the only ones where you can be charged for receiving a message.

You cannot do this on the handset. A block activated on the handset will stop you seeing the messages but will not stop you being charged for them.

The block must be implemented at the network level. Complain to Ofcom and Phone-paid Services Authority. It's time that consumers had the facility to block these messages.
  • While it won't help the OP, as they are on O2, some other networks have blocking to prevent out of bundle charges.

We are with Three, who have a user configurable setting in "My3" where you can block all extra charges. It would be nice to be able to set a specific limit, but their "all or nothing" setting is better than the options some networks offer.
