Removal costs and Packing service

Hi

I am in the process of searching for a good removal company. The last time we moved was nearly 20 years ago and as we moved from a furnished flat into our house we hired a van and moved ourselves, this time we have 20 years of accumulated possessions!

We are moving about 10 miles across SE London.

How much should we expect to pay?

I have been told that using the packing service will be the best money I've ever spent, do others agree?

Any help or advice welcomed!

We've used GB Liners who are a national company a couple of times, would have no hesitation in using them again or recommending them. Can't advise on price, was 12 years ago and I've forgotten how much.

Yes, the packing service is worth every penny. They do the job every day (would drive me nuts but there's no accounting for folk), and will make a far better, quicker job of it than you will.

I got the packing done on the last ocassion I moved and it was definitely well worth it - it was so much less stressful, and eveything was packed carefully and with minimum stress to me. It also meant that instead of having to either live among boxes for ages, or tryto pack in mad rush once contracts were exchanged, I didn't need to do anyof that, the packers came the day before I moved, packed eveything execept the bed and a few other essentials, then finished it off the following mornng, which also meant that eveything was out of the house and I had time to do so last minutes cleaning on the morning of the move.

In rterms of costs, I suggest getting 2 or 3 quotes and ake it from there . I found that using a local, independent firm was significantly cheaper than using one of the big names ones, and they were also much easier to get hold of.

Removals insurance may not be available from the company unless you DO have them doing the packing.

Packing service all the way - for all the reasons above!

We lived in complete normality until the day before we moved (no boxes). The day before, four guys swarmed in and packed our entire four-bed house in half a day. I just sat on the bed watching films on my laptop, keeping out of their way and feeling very decadent. :rotfl:

More expensive but worth it if you can afford it.

We paid £800 to move from a 2 bed ground floor to a 2 bed first floor flat moving about 1.5 miles. This was the full packing service and moving. Hope that helps.

    i used anyvan.com recently.
you submit your job then wait for MANY quotes to come in.
i ended up using EasyMoves; had no problems with them.
