Broadband he'll

Hi everyone
I have had several broadband suppliers over the years and recently cancelled with Sky due to poor download speed.
I really need broadband as have children at Uni but the issue I have is getting a decent supplier. I saw Martin's article on the " promises given by suppliers " that fail to deliver.
Sky could only give me 0.7 and other suppliers promise the same but the reality ?
I am not due for fibre untill next year so does anyone out there have any top tips or Similar experience
Thank you all
Have a great day 😘

Is this poor download speed over WiFi if so you need to adjust your WiFi .
Have you tested from the master socket via Ethernet cable or logged in to your router to see input speeds .

Not much you can do if the supply is so poor to your premises .
  • If you're on ADSL and a long way from the exchange then that may be all you can get, because physics. In that case changing supplier won't help, the only alternatives are different technologies - FTTC ("fibre") when it arrives, mobile, satellite or a private circuit.

Or moving house. When I moved house six years ago, broadband was right up at the top of my non-negotiables list.

I had Sky giving 6 to 6.4 Mbps over wifi, on a regular basis, but moved to PlusNet (about 6 weeks ago) and have a much worse service, though it has improved slightly this week.

I just fixed a neighbours PN broadband .
i tested master socket at 10meg input .
    Wifi at 4meg .
Repositioned router by turning around for best signal . Changed to a better channel removed old laptop from the setup and tested again .8.5 meg over WiFi .
  • I've had all the tests done, Sky engineer actually told me I'm throwing money away and to cancel, It's so frustrating

Sky don't employ engineers, so was it BT OR who attended the property.?
If you switch suppliers but remain on ADSL, then your line to the exchange remains the same regardless-so your only option is VM cable, if available, or to wait for FTTC.
